Alan's Story
Life
In life's ups and downs, I am in an up phase. As Professor and Chair of a graduate program in Public Health, I can work with professionals who will make a positive difference in the world. I can do a modest amount of research and travel as I wish.
I have four children and five grandchildren. All but one are in California. We have an apartment attached to my stepdaughter's house in Sonoma County, CA and some property in northern Thailand on which we will soon build. My wife is from Thailand and is an executive with a hospital in Chicago. We live in Evanston.
I am a member of a Conservative Jewish Syagogue, but have let my activities lapse. I am grateful that my health is basically all right and that we do all we ever did. After having been indifferent to my own history for too long, I find myself "googling" whomever and wherever ...Expand for more

College
After graduating from the U. of Iowa in 1964, I spent a year at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1968 I received an MA in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto. I then returned to Iowa for a PhD in Foundations of Education.
I taught at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL for 9 years. While on sabbatical, I became interested in public health and took a Master of Public Health degree at UIC and then stayed on to teach there another 6 years. This in tern led to multiple assignments for the World Health Organization in Africa and SE Asia.
After several years in private business and in educational consulting I returned to university life 4 years ago and am not Professor of Public Health at Benedictine University in Lisle, a western suburb of Chicago.
