Alan's Story
Life
My life has been pretty good. There have been ups and downs, but it has all taken me to where I am today. I have moved around a lot, which allows me to see more of the world. I have lived in Italy, Greece, and now live in Russia.
I have a wonderful wife, Alana, and two great children, Amy and Adam. They have both finished college and are happy and successful.
I am working in a field that I enjoy and I get the opportunity to travel around the world. It has been a good life.
School
I started school in Stuttgart Arkansas. I spent the first four years of school there. Then we moved to Logan, Utah. I attended fifth through eighth grade there. Then we moved to Metairie, Louisiana and I finished ninth and tenth grade. Then we moved to Slidell Louisiana where I graduated from High School
The time in Louisiana was the best and after my stint in the Navy, I returned to Slidell and lived there for ten years.
I have just re-established connections with some friends from Logan, Utah and hope to continue these friendships.
College
At Southeastern, I was just out of High School and I lived on campus the first year and then commuted on the bus from home for the next two years. Then I joined the Navy and took college courses in Bethesda, and in Italy from The University of Maryland and Laverne University and then I took some courses from San Diego State University and got a degree from the University of the State of New York in 1979. Then I went to National University in San Diego and got an MBA in Health Care Administration in 1980.
Then I attended the Military Physician Assistant training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and Ft Bragg in North Carolina and received a BS in Medicine in 2000.
So, I have been in school forever and I think I am finished.
Military
I started out in Boot camp in Orlando in 1972 and then attended Hospital Corps school in Great Lakes Illinois. After Corps School, I was in Lab school at Bethesda, Maryland from 1973 to 1974. Then I was in Naples Italy at EPMU 7 from 1974 to 1977. Then I spent three years in San Diego at the Naval Health Research Center from 1977 to 1980. I left the Navy in 1980.

o Washington DC when I moved there in 1990. I drilled at SBU 24 in Little Creek Virginia for a couple of years and then returned to WDC and drilled with a Marine Surgical Support Company until my retirement in 2001.
After leaving the Navy in 1980, I returned to Slidell and worked for several companies selling medical lab supplies. I worked for several companies until 1990. In 1990, we moved to Northern Virginia to work for the government. I was working for DOD as a Medical Services Officer. I made many short trips overseas and attended PA school from 1998 to 2000. I was then assigned to the US Embassy in Athens Greece from 2002 to 2006. We were there for the Olympics in 2004. It was a wonderful time. We were able to buy tickets to events the day of the event and we attended many different sports events. Our favorite was softball. Our daughter played in High School and coached while teaching high school English.
I retired in 2006 and have been doing contract work for the Department of State since then.
And now the most important part of my life, my family. I have been married to a wonderful woman for over 35 years and we have shared wonderful adventures around the world. We have two great children that are both started successful careers. Our youngest, Adam, has been married for several years and works for the government and lives about 50 miles away from us. Our daughter, Amy, is getting married in a few weeks (May 2009). She has been living in our house while we are living in Moscow...yea the one in Russia. Alana works there at the Embassy and will be there for another year. I am doing a lot of traveling and get back there between trips. We are looking forward to another assignment in the next year or so. Not sure where that will be, but we are ready for the adventure.
So, that is the path I have taken to get to where I am today. I would have never imagined this happening at any point in my past, but I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything.
