Albert's Story
Life has been "interesting". I could not afford to fly and get married so I got married to Maureen. My best friend and love of my life. After 49 years we are still growing together. We have had 2 children of our own, one adopted, and half a dozen foster children. Now in addition we have 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. I was in the automotive business as a parts and or service manager for 15 years. Then I became a Girl Scout. I was the property manager for 14 camps from Lake Ontario to Towanda PA. While working for the Girl Scouts I was on the board of the Cayuga Nature Center which I chaired for 5 years. I also became a licensed Adirondack Guide, taught classes in survival, paleontology, geology, ropes and climbing, forestry, astronomy, pioneer
living, and others to elem., jr. high, high school and collage credit courses as well as programs for the State Parks and TV. Maureen and I started buying houses, fixing them up and renting or selling them. We presently keep in stock about 40 homes. In my spare time I wrote and played music for the church, raced canoes, became a youth leader, ordained mini...Expand for more
ster, and did some counseling for the Church at Cornell. In 1984 I was injured while felling a tree at work. The injury worsened until by 1989 I could no longer work. Life became a fuzzy blur from the constant and severe pain. With two canes and sometimes a wheelchair I got around. We moved to Hot Springs National Park Arkansas. With the help of a hot tub and exercise I got to the point that I could function most of the time. Our church choir at St. Lukes went to England and performed at some of the churches and cathedrals there. We were invited to sing at the National Cathedral in D.C. and did two performances using one of the hymns I wrote. In 2001 relief came in the form of an incurable cancer. I was told I had 3 to 4 months to live. God blessed me with cancer that caused two vertebra to collapse. When this happened 80% of my pain was gone. I found out that here in Little Rock UAMS is the top facility in the world for multiple myeloma. 8 years, 3 stem cell transplants countless tests and chemos later I am still here and happy. Like I say "Life has been interesting" but all and all quite wonderful.
