Alec's Story
After 62 years of hard and fast living I still think fondly about Lindsay and LCVI. It WAS the best years of my life.
I still return home (24 Duke St) for a visit once in a while and can never resist the temptation to drive around the town reminiscing about the good times we had.
While in Lindsay, my lifelong passions were born and have never changed - hunting, motorcycles and scuba diving - oh, and girls! In all 3(4) areas I have an immense storage bank of incredible memories and I've also achieved renown beyond my expectations - world record hunting prowess, international recognition in the biking community and too many awards and accolades in the scuba diving sport and industry to list.
After LCVI, I went to Peterborough Teacher's College and then taught in Scarborough for several years. I was married to my LCVI sweetheart Sandra and had a wonderful son Tony. Tired of the long hours and low pay I became a successful Real Estate Broker in Toronto for about 12 years and then a professional Head Hunter (you either know what that is or you don't!). During most of that time I taught scuba diving for a number of dive shops until finally in 1982 I opened The Wet Shop which became the largest scuba facility in Canada with 7 branch stores throughout Southern Ontario. In 1999 I closed them all and built Scuba 2000 (scuba2000.com) which is the biggest such facility in Canada.
In the meantime I've traveled the world on dive ...Expand for more
trips and for my own pleasure - all of North America, most of the Caribbean, the Pacific, Europe, Mid-East, Africa and more. Most of these adventures were for scuba diving but many for hunting. Since hunting groundhogs south of Lindsay in the 50's, I've gone on to be the president of The Safari Club International and a director on a dozen other conservation/hunting organizations as well as accumulating 8 big game world record trophies.
From the day my best school friend Dave and I rented a Honda 90 motorbike from White's in Lindsay and proceeded to destroy it in one afternoon, I've been racing and riding motorcycles and I still have 6 bikes today - 3 Norton Commandos, 1 Honda, 1 Suzuki and my daily rider, a Vulcan Classic 1500.
On a personal level, while no Tiger Woods, I've enjoyed the company of many beautiful women and married 4 of them. I have 4 incredible children and 4 grandchildren too. All of us, wives and kids get together and share memories and warm feelings.
I live with my current, wonderful (and patient) lady Diana on a 166 acre horse ranch surrounded by fields, woods and ponds near Brechin, a short drive from Lindsay.
In 20 more years God willing, you'll find me back in Lindsay in the Peirce section of Riverside Cemetery by the bridge over Sucker Creek overlooking the Scugog.
I have no regrets, few unsatisfied dreams, a contented future with more than enough memories to keep me warm and happy forever.
