Tommy's Story
Life
It has been almost 20 years since high school graduation and time sure has flown. I spent my freshman year of college at Jacksonville State but transferred to Auburn University afterward. I graduated from AU with a Finance degree in March of 1995 (yeah, it took me a while) and joined the Army in August of that same year. I spent four years in the Finance Corps stationed in Seoul, South Korea and then at Fort Bliss, Texas. While on active duty at Bliss I began my career in Army Budget. In January 2000 I transitioned to civil service (i.e., I became a civilian once again, doing the same budget job Â
but with better pay and without the funny haircut). In January of 2001 I moved to Fort Monroe, Virginia, and in November of 2002 I met Susan Estes who was kind enough to rescue me from bachelorhood. In June 2005 I began graduate studi...Expand for more
es in the Defense Comptrollership Program at Syracuse University, and 14 months later I graduated with masters degrees in both Business Administration and Public Administration. While in Syracuse our son Gabriel Alexander was born officially making me one proud papa. We are currently living and working in Washington DC. Susan is a teacher at a local elementary school, I work in the Pentagon in the Army Budget Office, and Gabriel is quickly growing into what is know in military terms as a FROG (a Free Rocket Over Ground). We have a lot of plans for the future. Susan begins classes in August toward becoming an assistant principal and I am applying to a doctoral program at The George Washington University; GabrielÂs sole ambition is to gain access to the refrigerator. In short, life has been good so far and just keeps on getting better.
