Alex's Story
Life
Met my wife while in my last year of high school. We got married 6 years later and have been happily married for more than 5 years now. We've owned a few houses, moved a bit, but settled back in Ottawa.
I've tried my hand at many jobs as I spent quite a few years in school so I'm a self-styled jack-of-all-trades. I don't think I'll ever settle into one "career" type job as I'm always looking for something else, work-wise, to keep me on my toes. I could never imagine myself doing any one thing for longer than a few years.
Over the years I've been a camera operator, a graphic designer, a consultant for the Gov't, a special effects assistant (movies and tv), a pencil-pusher, a cubicle-dweller, and a salesman. I'm currently in marketing and advertising (second go-around at this).
In 1997 I went vegetarian, and less than 2 years later, fully vegan.
Vices include smoking and drinking beer and generally being a lazy-ass couch-potato during hockey season.
I play hockey year-round, and am back to playing goal after a 7 year absence in the early 90's.
My wife Cindy and I now live in Borehaven with our 7 cats. (yes, 7 cats).
School
Yes, the profile is correct, I DID go to "Elmwood School for Girls." They allowed boys there (at least at that time) between grades 1 and 6. My favourite teacher ever, Mrs Korngold, was at Elmwood. Good friends there: Arthur Masters, and David (Can't remember his last name, sorry David, it's been a long time!).

ther kids had a 3 year head start on me. I never felt like I fit in. All the other kids had been going there since kindergarten. Friends included Zsolt Finta (who I still am good friends with), Chris Zacharko, Anita Simms and probably a few others I can't remember.
St Patrick's JR High was where I started to come into my own. I discovered skateboarding and punk rock music and started to have a better attitude (though Sister Anna Claire and Walter Hempey would disagree, but they had me pegged wrong... so much for the school system working for the benefit of the kids...!) Friends included Mat McDonald, Sean Sisk and Scott Allen among others.
St Pat's High was where I discovered beer and smoking and the joys of skipping school. But I got through it (with an extra year or two for good measure). Friends included Tanya Casey, Scott Allen, Anna Dinelle and Chantal Brown. The rest of my friends were smart and went to better schools. (!)
I did a couple of stints at college (1 year at St Lawrence in Kingston, a 2 year diploma in broadcasting at Algonquin and another 1 year certificate from there as well.) Took a semester at Carleton and decided uni wasn't for me.
Workplace
Currently (2006) back in Ottawa, and back in Graphic Design/Marketing for a medium-sized manufacturing company.
Did some SPFX in Van city before that (long hours, little pay, but extremely interesting work). Spent the previous 5 years at Bell Canada in a cubicle (short hours, great pay, BORING work).
Thankfully never had to flip burgers for a living (there's still time though). Always been in the right place at the right time with the right skill set. Also been lucky.
