Alfred's Story
Life
Following HS graduation, I worked for a year at a yarn plant, then joined the Army, spent 24 years in calibration and repair of precision measuring equipment, and retired at the rank of Sergeant Major in July 2000. Along the way I married my beautiful wife, Hye, and have a son, Geoffrey and daughter Joanna, in college at UAH doing great things. We're all just happy to be living in one place long enough to plant flowers and watch them come up! I'm working as a logistics manager for Computer Sciences Corp (CSC) in Huntsville, AL supporting Army Aviation. Having fun and getting paid, so God is taking care of all our needs!
I missed every reunion, usually by only a day or two, because reunions happen during the summer, the same time as military moves. Please look me up and drop me an email or give me a call, I continually wonder how ya'll are doing!
College
College was a different sort of trip for me. I started seriously taking courses at night at the same time I was working a gazillion hours as a green manager. Most of my Army assignments required extensive travel, so I took classes whenever I was in place long enough, finishing my bachelor's in business in only 13 yrs, primarily with U. of Maryland (They have overseas campuses for military students). I finished my Masters in Organizational Management with U. of Phoenix Online 25 June 2003, and the family and I are taking our first ever vacation for my graduation ceremony July 18th in Phoenix!

n started with Needlecraft Corp as a shipping clerk for about a year in the old Crown Cotton Mill. I couldn't move up unless somebody died, so I joined the Army to further my education and boy! What an education! I learned how to be a soldier, how to get in shape, and how to calibrate and repair any type of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment. I managed calibration laboratories in Augsburg Germany and Korea, performed quality assurance inspections and technical measurement audits worldwide, managed regional and global operations, and was a company First Sergeant in Korea and Redstone Arsenal, AL. I worked in the Fire Support Team Vehicle office as my last assignment, where I learned about system readiness and about how the defense contractor system works. I became a contractor myself in April 2000, and have really enjoyed getting to help improve new missile and aviation systems that are being fielded. I do strategic logistics planning, aviation and air defense trainer and simulator development, and will field a new IFF transponder to the Army helicopter fleet beginning this fall. I realized recently that I do not have a crystal clear 5-yr plan, because I am very pleased doing my current job, which has a 5-year requirement for my services. Completing my Masters Degree this month won't change that, but it gives me more options if something better comes along, or when I get to pursue my dream job, working as a Boy Scout Executive, or a church-related field providing high standards in an outdoors setting for kids/youth.
