Alice's Story
Life
So,I'm a rockstar. This was the last thing I thought I'd aspire to be when I graduated High School. Well, here's what I've been doing since H.S. and graduating from Douglass College..
ALICE LEON, leader and namesake of THE ALICE PROJECT, is certainly a bright new voice among the classic female singer-songwriters of the post-Beatles era. With a gutsy stage presence that harkens No DoubtÂs Gwen Stefani, Alice writes and sings the type of sharp, emotionally pointed lyrics and readily accessible music that place her in direct lineage from Carole King and Carly Simon to the memorable melodies of Aimee Mann and the poet-smart lyrics of Jill Sobule.
Provocative, smart pop may seem like a lost art these days, but it's hardly been lost on THE ALICE PROJECT. With the October 2000 release of their second Clown Milk Records CD, TRAVELING WITH LADY BERLIN, this plucky foursome from Princeton, N.J., exposes its stories of hope through experience with a know...Expand for more
ing wink and undeniably heightened musicianship.
THE ALICE PROJECT accidentally sprung from a development deal Alice landed with Sony Music following the 1996 breakup of her previous band, After Alice. She was spotted performing the first act of her new rock musical, ÂThe Reluctant Debutante, acoustically in a Greenwich Village cafe by a Sony representative, and was signed by the legendary John Kalodner to record a demo produced by JackylÂs Jesse Dupree and Skid RowÂs Dave ÂThe Snake Sabo. Alice continues to play over 100 shows a year with THE ALICE PROJECT. Alice has been making noise in the entertainment industry since 1990, when her her alterna-pop band, After Alice, was noticed in New York by a ÂStar Search talent scout and flown to Disney World for a pair of tapings. Several tracks from After Alice's 1995 album, Sound the Alarm, were used as background music on "The Guiding Light," and Alice appeared on the CBS soap as a wedding singer.
