Alicia's Story

Life I still live in the city of Milwaukee and am currently employed at Greater Holy Temple Christian Academy a K4-8th grade private school. I am a Teaching Assistant for one of our two Third grade classrooms and I am our schools Girl Scout Director and a Troop Leader. I have been employed there for 5 months. I attended Mount Mary College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Promotion and Events Planning. I spent most of my career in Retail Management. I have worked throughout the city of Milwaukee with companies such as Coach Leatherware, Lerner(now New York & Company), Sunglass Hut and Gap. I attended John Robert Powers Modeling School and have produced many fashion shows here in the Milwaukee area. My greatest accomplishment came when I helped to produce and direct two fashion shows for the Milwaukee Black Expo in the mid 1990's. At that time I was a modeling instructor at a small production company, Midwest Productions, that was run by Linda Cooper. I am very involved in the fashion industry and am currently working to open a small boutique. I would like to open a salon and day spa in the near future. I am a Warm Spirit spa and wellness product consultant. I also do Etiquette, Health and Hygeine workshops geared toward school aged children. I still love to shop and read anything pertaining to fashion. I collect miniture shoe figurines and have taken a liking to charm bracelets. I attend church at Living Water Christian Center. I am currently single. I have two beautiful nieces, Jordan and Kennedy. I love life, my family , my career my relationship with Christ. School I started my school career in Milwaukee, WI at the 35th street elementary school. I attended grades K5-3rd(1st semester). Then I moved with my mother and younger brother to Junction City , AR and attended Junction City Elementary from 1979-1982. I went there from 3rd(2nd semester)to 5th grade. I made quite a few friends at both schools, but Junction City is where I have the most memories and lasting friendships. I then moved back to Milwaukee and attended one year at Clara Barton Elementary in the 6th grade. From there I went on to Daniel Webst...Expand for more
er Middle School for 7th and 8th grades. I then attended high school at South Division. I was in the Food Service Specialty and a participating memeber of the Future Homemakers of America/ Home Economics Related Occupations organization. It was there that I started my career in fashion show production by putting on two seperate shows for my classmates and peers. I had many aquaintences and small group of close friends. I then went on to college at Mount Mary. This is where I begin my studies in Fashion. I modeled in all but one of the yearly student designer shows and produced several smaller scale fashion shows while a member of the Women Of Color Alliance. I graduated from Mount Mary in December 1994 after switching majors a couple of times and finally receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Promotion and Events Planning. College Mount Mary was very different for me because it was an all female Catholic college. I learned that females can be very catty and too chatty , but overall I had a positive and rewarding experience. My favorite professor was Sister Joan Pendenstadler, she taught one of the required theology courses. She had such a wonderful personality and was a very helpful professor in my time at college. Mount Mary helped to shape and mold me into the intelligent , professional and independent woman that I am. One of my greatest accomplishment of my college career ,aside from my degree, was gaining my best friend Lanette Collins. From this friendship I also gained two beautiful godchildren , Arielle(whom I named ) and Cameron. I would not change many things about my college life because they helped me to live life as a strong and independent African -American woman in the society in which we live. Workplace I am currently employed at Grace Christian Academy as the Business Manager and the Food Service Director. Ilove my job because I am able to work with and interact with children. Ispent many years in retail and I finally called it quits in the fall of 2003. Iam fortunate to work alongside my mother, who happens to be the CEO/Director of our school. I am also working on ideas for a boutique and salon/day/spa.
