Alison's Story
Life
I got a degree in Radio-TV-Film from UT-Austin, returned to Arlington for a few years, then got married in 1991. We moved back to Austin in 1993 & have lived there since, except for 8 months in 2006 when we lived in Sarasota, Florida. I worked as a technical writer for 7½ years, but am now pursuing freelance writing while staying home with my wonderful sons, Ryan, born in August 1998, Kyle, born in January 2001, and Blake, born in January 2007.
School
My favorite teachers were my first grade teacher, Mrs. O'Halloran, and my high school French teacher, Mrs. Phemister. Both of them made class fun! I also have great memories of high school drama classes and productions, especially the one-act play that went to state competition my senior year.
College
I spent two years at UT Austin, one year back home at UT Arlington, then another year & a half at UT Austin to finish my degree in Radio-TV-Film. They were some of the most interesting and ...Expand for more
challenging years of my life! They were sometimes maddening, but I wouldn't trade them. In the fall of 1990 I returned to UT Arlington for one semester of graduate school (in Humanities), but decided that wasn't for me, and started my first job as a technical writer the following spring. In retrospect it may seem strange that I spent my junior year at a different university than I went to for all the other years, but that year paid off quite well... I joined a church group on campus that year, and the summer after I graduated from college, I met my husband through that group!
Workplace
I'm not in a "day job" anymore, but writing fiction for children and young adults. No books published yet, but I've had poems, articles, and short stories published in various publications. If any of my old writing friends and/or drama friends are looking at this, I hope you are still pursuing your dreams, too! Life is too short not to. (And get in touch, okay?!)
