Alita's Story
I was born in St. Louis, where I attended Wade Elementary (1960-64) and Cleveland High (1964-68). Then I majored in languages/comparative literature (French, Spanish, English) at Hendrix College (1968-72). Most of my career was spent in public education; for 35 years I taught (ACT Prep, English, French, Spanish, Stage Crew) and supervised various activities at Hall High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Although I retired from teaching in June 2010, I continued to serve as advisor for Hall High's Key ...Expand for more
Club (as well as editor, programs chair, and public relations chair for its sponsoring Kiwanis Club of Pulaski Heights) until October 2012. I remain active with various non-profit organizations supporting the arts, education, human rights, and the environment. I serve as Secretary for the Arkansas Jazz Heritage Foundation (the all-volunteer, non-profit corporation which sponsors and maintains the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame) and Arkansas Administrator/Editor for All About Jazz/Jazz Near You.
