Allan's Story

I have been living in Rochester, MN for almost 5 years and have loved almost every minute of it. We have met so many wonderful people during our brief time here. The city is very affordable, clean, active, and very friendly. Not only this but it is only about 5 hours to my folk's house in Cudahy and even closer to attractions like the Wisconsin Dells and Mall of America located an hour away in the Twin Cities. Currently, I am a successful eukaryotic cell biologist, having over 10 years of research experience both in Milwaukee and Rochester. I have co-authored a number of notable scientific peer-reviewed papers while working in several dedicated labs over this period of time. I look forward to having a first author publication in the near future, doing some work related travel, as well as possibly pursuing my PhD at a later date. My current educational history after high school consists of both Bachelor and Master degrees in Clinical Laboratory Science at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, with 2 years at St. George's University School of Medicine located in the Caribbean (both in Grenada and St. Vincent) in-between. I have had the privlidge of traveling all over the world: England, Scotland, Honduras, Venezuela, China, South Korea, Margaritia, and Canada as well as many areas of the US. My trip to Venezuela was particlarly memorable. We went to locations that are litterally untouched to this very day, including the area where the highest waterfall in the world is located (Angel Falls). Here at home I enjoy fishing on the Mississippi River(particularly Lake Pepin) in our 16 foot Crestl...Expand for more
iner boat, going to our timeshare in the Dells (among our other timeshare locations throughout the US), visiting our very good friends, and just staying home with a good flick in the VCR (and a few Malt Beers to boot). My wife (Jing) of 7 years and I have two wonderful little boys. Isaac is 6 years old and just finishing up Kindergarten. He is very bright, handsome, and has more friends than anyone else I know. Aiden (in the picture above; sorry the scanner only does b/w as of now) is 2 1/2 and is becoming a delight to all. He enjoys hanging out at the library with his brother, looking at picture books, watching cartoons, and playing with the toys at Wal-Mart. He is just about the cutest little buckaroo one could possibly conjure up. Aiden will take abbreviated child care this summer in the hopes of making him as successfully sociable as Isaac. Our future goals are to save in hopes of finding a lovely log home nearby as well as purchasing a new Saturn Outlook (the coolest SUV I have ever seen). Update: 3/29/10 Since writing this piece I continue to do well in my line of work, my boys continue to thrive and are very healthy. I remain active in many volunteer and political causes, all the while continuing to educate myself on just about everything (advanced mathematics, theology, politics, cell biology, organic chemistry, legitimate challenges to Darwin, etc.). I never tire of learning about the remarkable world in which we live. I continue to look forward to new challenges and to all those great people that I have yet to meet, and as always I give thanks for those I already have met.
