Allan's Story
3-7-10 We are moving forward. Things have improved a lot, and we are thankful for those we love, and those who love us.
Life
update: On 7-11-08 Lil and the girls were in an MVA, Lil did not survive. We are trying to piece our lives back together. The loss is difficult, but we are doing the best we can. Thank you to all who have provided support that has sustained us during this time.

Currently living in Los Osos, enjoy sea-kayaking and sailing for my main hobbies. Spend all the time I can with my daughters, Elizabeth Danielle, Dana, and Danielle Summer. Thomas and his wife and 2 kids, are loving and hard working. Work as a Forensic Psychologist for the State of Calif, stimulating and demanding work. Make pretty regular trips to Roseville to see Dad and my sister Nadine, and Dani, oldest daughter. Doing a fair amount of reading and 'inner work' these days, due to unexpected life changes. Recent reads were Velvet Elvis and Inner Gold by Robert Johnson. Have a pop-top camper to haul kayaks and camp in, love where I live, run on the beach often before work, and make a lot of bread (actual bread..) I feel really lucky all of my kids have turned out so well, in spite of me! Thomas is a CDF Fire Captain, Dani is independent and hard working, Dana is working on a Linguistics degree at Cal Poly, and Danielle pretty much runs the rest of us with her charm and wit, as the coolest Senior at Morro Bay High. Stay in close contact with Randy Landis, we sailed the British Virgin Isles together with his kids. Dad and I took my girls (Lil, Dana, and Danielle)to go out into the Gray whale birthing lagoons in Baja (San Ignacio) and the whales actually come up to have human contact, it was really amazing.

Some of my top memories: Jordan Pratt, Bill Floratos, and I thought it would be cool to cruise Greenback avenue on a busy Friday night in our topless dunebuggy, stark naked. It was stop and go traffic, and parents with small children were trying to cover their kids eyes from the horror...So we decide to give a surprise visit to Charles Wright, who was working at the Chevron Station, which was all lit up. We pull in, and Jordan stands straight up, covere...Expand for more
d by nothing but his fur, which was pretty thick, actually. As we slowly pull in before God and everybody, Charles eyes get really wide, his mouth drops, and with Jordan displaying everything he's got to show, Charles finally spits out "Wow! Where'd you get the dune buggy?" A minute later he saw other stuff too, but he was really impressed by the dune buggy.
Workplace
I have had the opportunity to gain a lot from the experiences of others whom I meet thru my work. One time, while working as a yard psychologist at a maximum-security prison, an inmate came in and said he just wanted to check in, he wasn't sure why he'd put in for a visit with the psych. He proceeded to tell me how maybe it was because this was the anniversary of an event in his life. He told me how some bare wiring in this house he was living in with his wife and 5 yr old daughter caught fire one night, and the house quickly went up in flames. He scrambled outside, and instantly realized his daughter was trapped in the upstairs bedroom. He ran and got the ladder and put it against the burning house and climbed up through smoke and flames to reach the upstairs bedroom window where his daughter was yelling for him to help her. Just as he touched her hand the floor gave way, and he lost her forever. How I can feel sorry for myself sometimes I'll never know.
While working in Administrative Segregation (the jail within the prison) an inmate whispered for me to come to his cell, where he remained 24 hrs a day, with perhaps 2hrs a week of outside 'cage' time. He asked me if it was unusual for him to be doing counting games a lot. I asked him to tell me more, and he said he found himself to be unable to stop from counting things at times. I asked him again to tell me some more and he said he first recalled doing this from the counting games he and friends would play on the way to school. He went on to tell me of the conditions of life in his 3rd world country at the time, and that one of the things they did to deal with things were to see how many human bodies they could count on the way to school each day, as the number changed, and it was a fact of life in his violence-laden part of the world.
