Allison's Story

Life I currently work for the federal Department of Canadian Heritage, as the Manager of Public Broadcasting, which means I'm the main contact for all things pertaining to the CBC. Since I joined the federal government, I have also worked closely with the CRTC, the National Film Board, with Aboriginal groups on cultural tourism & the arts, and on programs to support Canadian book publishers. I have received 2 Deputy Minister's Awards for my "outstanding contributions" to two separate public events: The Minister's Forum on Cultural Diversity, and The National Gathering on Aboriginal Cultures & Tourism. Since the beginning of my career 8 years ago, I have authored & had published 7 children's books (illustrated by Cori Mar...Expand for more
vin), edited a national wine magazine, worked as an acquisitions editor at a literary press, been vice-president/associate editor of a children's press, and been co-publisher of a literary anthology on human rights issues. I have also edited numerous books and articles. In 2005, I was chosen as one of the 5 recipients of the Jeanne Sauvé Professional Development Program (see the website of Canadian Women in Communications, under Professional Development). I was married in the fall of 2004 to my long-time partner, Rory. He was, funnily enough, my "boyfriend" for a short time in 7th grade. We live in Ottawa, and we are both fortunate enough to count many of our friends from high school among our closest friends today.
