Allison's Story
Life
Currently, I am working in an emergecy department in the south bay, and I love it. Working as a Physician Assistant, I get a lot of patient interaction as well as a lot of procedures. I am still getting used to the fact that I can actually examine, diagnose, and prescribe medications on my own...after being a career student, it is wonderful to finally be in a career that I love.
It is nice to be back in the bay area, and when I am not at work I love hanging out with friends (new and old) in the city. After spending 10 years away from it, moving back I have a newfound appreciation for all it has to offer.
School
Thank God, I am finally done with school. Spending six years in undergrad at UCSD and three years completing my masters at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center was enough. However, sometimes I still miss it...although now my scholarly ambitions are focused on finding language schools throughout the world, especially ...Expand for more
in countries that are largely spanish of chinese speaking.
College
Studying aside, I had a lot of fun adventures in college. I think one of the highlights was working at the campus radio station as a DJ and then later as the publicity director. I definitely met a lot of interesting characters hanging out there! Granted, a lot of the music they played was total crap, but I had fun with my friend Ann and our Tuesday night radio show, playing hip-hop and latin music. It was also *interesting* advertising and attending some of the "events" that were put on. It definitely exposed me to a side of UCSD that I never would have seen otherwise.
Workplace
Working in an ER has its perks. The hours can be tough...working two weekends a month sometimes leaves me feeling left out of the social scene, but it also keeps me out of trouble! I am fortunate to have awesome co-workers who know when to get down to business, but still manage to have fun.
