Alton's Story
I was somewhat of a "get by" student. I spent most of my high school working in the mill so I could drive my own car and I guess my grades suffered but I kept after it until graduation in `61. The one thing I am proud of was my DCT class with Mr. Watkins and for some reason I did well in his class. Ater graduation I worked in the mill a couple more years and joined the Air Force where I fit right in and scored well on their tests. They sent me to a 40-week tech school where I learned electronics and it changed my life. When I returned in `67 I found a job with AT&T and later with a couple of Airlines in Atlanta. tlanta. I joined the USAF reserve at Dobbins after a few years and rose to the rank of Tech Sargent. Later after retiring I worked at Lockheed on the F_22 Project applying the stealth coatings and retired for good in `03. I always stayed in contact with a few old schoolmates and still like to stay in touch with reunions and the computer. Currently my wife Betty and I have four kids between us, eleven grandkids and seven greats. God has seen me through some tough times, but I feel blessed even if I dragged my feet back in high school. At 81, I have seen and done a lot and would not trade the experience. I love seeing and hearing from old friends and classmates. As we all grow older let`s be grateful the Lord has given us longevity when many we know have gone on.
