Amanda's Story
Life
Hey All! After leaving Gunn High, I spent a few years tooling around Palo Alto waitressing for a living and attending classes at Foothill before packing my bags and moving to big bad Los Angeles. L.A. kinda sucked, but I learned and grew by leaps and bounds before packing my bags again to bask in the grunge scene that was Seattle in 1993. Seattle rocked, but alas, it was a love that was not meant to be. I found myself back in San Francisco in '94 where I finally settled down enough to get my B.A. in Sociology from SFSU.
Around 1998, I hooked up with a couple of great girls and helped form a pop-punk trio called Violet Discord. We performed around S.F. and beyond for about 5 years and made a record, which was cool. Unfortunately, my dear bandmate did not get along well in The City and had to leave. The infection that was VD was officially wiped out and my life as a rock star was over...or was it?
In late 2003 I was spotted at a hot rod show and invited to join another all girl band of psychobillies called Thee Merry Widows and it has been a wild ride ever since. We have played the Exotic Erotic Ball (with 2 Live Crew!), toured the UK, played the legendary CBGB in NYC, toured the entire West Coast, and released a full length album in 2006 that seemed to sell really well in Texas. We also performed for the boys at San Quentin and are a now top requested act there (imagine that.)
We toured the Southwest in summer '06 (b...Expand for more
est tour ever!) and toured Europe in March/April '07 to play a festival called 'The Satanic Stomp' and to tour around the EU in support of the Euro release of our album 'Revenge Served Cold' on People Like You Records. We followed it up another album titled 'The Devil's Outlaws' that we wrote mostly because we were promised another crack at touring Europe if we could do it in a year and we succeeded!
I spent most of October '08 in Germany and Italy touring with a couple of other great bands and getting in to lot of mischeif. There were enough great parties, pranks, and rock n' roll adventures to last a life time...or at least until summer '09 when we returned for another round of touring that included France (amazing) Germany (naturally) and Poland (huh?) Actually, growing up during the cold war and being a student of Sociology made Poland particularly interesting to me...Plus they had the best Vodka ever and were very generous with it.
I may sound a little crazy but in reality I'm pretty normal. When I'm not living out my rock n roll fantasies, I work full time in the field of interior design. I switched companies about a year ago and am now concentrating on institutional interiors as opposed to the high-end contemporary stuff I was pushing before. One of our big accounts is Stanford University and Hospital so lately I've found my self tooling around Palo Alto again. Maybe I'll see you around ;) If I do, lets have a beer!
