Amanda's Story
Life
My Spouse
Ted, my husband, and I met sometime during our sophomore year of college. I was attending Loyola University at the time and he was attending the University of New Orleans. We met through Circle K, a collegiate service organization that exists on both of our campuses. We did not begin dating until the summer before our senior years. Ted proposed to me in October 1999 during "Ladies Night" at the popular Uptown bar, Madigan's!
My Pets
I have a cat, Bloomer, which I adopted my senior year of high school. She is a fat, furry little black and white cat.
I also have a large dog named Dean; he is extremely goofy. He is part lab and is tan with black markings.
My Children
My son, Trey, was born on November 16, 2001 and weighed in at 7 lbs. 7.4 oz. He is now almost 2 years and growing like a weed. He's extremely intelligent and inquisitive, so it is really hard keeping up with his quick mind and even quicker body!
My Job
I work for DynMcDermott, the company which manages the US Petroleum Reserve, as a Document Control Specialist. I get to write daily, which is very satisfying. I plan on returning to school for some graduate work in a year or two. I want to look into journalism or technical writing as a lifelong career. Look for my name on the book racks soon, as I also dream of being published!
School
I was a dork the majority of my school career. See, I cannot tell a lie. Most people will remember me as that "band chick," or maybe the "debate chick," or even the "chick who yelled into the mic at the '95 talent show." I was a member of Key Club throughout my tenure a...Expand for more
t Woodlawn HS, which moved into a lifelong dedication of service with the Kiwanis family. Yes, I still do service, when I get the chance, which is rare right now. Surprisingly, I don't play the clarinet anymore, and I completed my college studies in English literature, not music! Do I miss my days at Woodlawn? Usually not, but it wouldn't hurt to catch up with a few of you, so drop me a line!
College
Six years and I am finally done! I began at Loyola University New Orleans in the fall of 1996. I was a Music Therapy major, which didn't last long after I learned I had no affinity for playing the guitar! After a semester as a music and English major, I decided to move back home and attend LSU... BIG MISTAKE! While I definitely got my partying on in BR, I decided it wasn't my thing, so I moved back to New Orleans and back to Loyola where I finally finished my tenure in August 2003. I love to learn (because I am a dork), so I will be back in school soon for more little papers to hang on my wall.
Workplace
Ah, the check-out girl... that's me! Yes, I worked as a check-out girl at Delchamps and Albertson's for over four years. I am happy to say, I've left that behind for bigger, better, and brighter things. I've since worked as a secretary for three pastors of a baptist church (I'm Catholic and the job was weird), a purchasing assistant, an employee of a licquor distributorship, and finally a Document Control Specialist. Oh yeah, there were those brief stints as a knife salesperson and a BellSouth rep. I really enjoy my current line of work and hope to break into writing sooner not later!
