School
I hated high school, college was great, so I've decided to become a professional student. In high school, I did like some of my teachers, my favorite being Mr. Steele. He was cool as hell.
In college, I just moved from school to school and traveled abroad in the process. England was fun. I enjoyed getting wasted and watching peacocks run wild all over campus. I really enjoyed my master's program and loved going on trips for conferences. Trips are the best use for student loan money, in my opinion. I hope I get into a doctoral program and enjoy it as much as the last two years and I hope I find professors that are as interesting to spend time with as the ones from my ETSU Counseling master's program.
College
College was interesting. I first went to...Expand for more
the University of Pittsburgh where my first roommate seemed like she was going to be cool but she turned out to be as crazy as my second roommate. Oh well, I should have had a private room anyway. I joined a sorority in an attempt to make friends, but they were weird and annoying, so I quit that and went abroad to Lancaster University in England. I spent most of my time at Chris's house which was a two hour train ride from my school. He is now my husband. I loved it over there. I wish I could've stayed. ETSU was great too, but I spent most of my time working and may graduate program went by much too fast. I am now at Old Dominion University in a three year doctoral program and enjoying every moment of it.
Workplace
Formerly work was okay. It was a constant battle to prevent burn-out. Most mental health agencies try and see how many clients a therapist or case manager can handle before they literally die. It's great fun. I liked spending time with clients though. I enjoyed the privilege of being around to help them with the difficult parts of their lives.
Now, however, I am in Norfolk pursuing my doctorate in counseling. I spend a lot of time reading and working on research and newsletter articles. I'm the fund raising chair for the honor society, Chi Sigma Iota. I am also hoping to volunteer some time at the local Planned Parenthood. As part of my program, I will get a concentration in Women's Studies, which I am very excited about.
