Amanda's Story
Life
During the last couple years of college, the big city started calling. I initially considered pursuing opportunities in Detroit and Chicago. However, after my first visit to New York City in June 2000, I was hooked. I moved to NYC in November 2000 with two friends and have never looked back. For me, it was probably the best decision I ever made. I've definitely found out things about myself that I never knew before. NYC is a very difficult city to live in. I can safely say that most of you who knew me in high school would never recognize me now. You definitely learn to fend for yourself and stand up for yourself here. It took us a year to find our apartment and decent paying jobs. In 10 years or so I may get tired of the big city life, but for now I'm lovin' every minute of it! In March 2005, I met my boyfriend, Fredd, who is wonderful and treats me well. We currently share an apartment in upper Manhattan. College
I graduated from Central Michigan University in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Management Information Systems major. My current line of work is very closely related to my degree. I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and scheduled to graduate in May 2007. In a few years I may pursue a Ma...Expand for more
sters degree in Project Management, but we'll see how things go.
Workplace
I have worked for E Commerce Group in New York City since August 2001. Being right next door to the World Trade Center, we were displaced to our New Jersey office after the events of September 11, 2001. I started as the first full-time employee in the Payment Processing External Quality Control department and worked my way up to manager of that department in about six months. While most eveyone moved back to our downtown NYC, a few departments (including my own) remained in New Jersey. After I felt I had done everything that I could with the External QA department--meaning I was bored, I requested a department transfer. As of February 2003, I have been working as a Project Manager in our NYC office. I work with new and existing clients (located nation-wide and many very well known) to either implement or upgrade them onto our software. The job is very fast paced and, at any given point, I'm dealing with about 8-10 clients in addition to my existing clients. Our company was acquired by First Data Corporation, the parent company of Western Union, in 2002, so we were a part of the Western Union Payment Services. In October 2006, Western Union split from its parent company and we are now its own public company. My official title now is Senior Implementation Analyst and I just celebrated my 5 year anniversary on August 20, 2006.
