Amanda's Story

Life Most of my life has been spent in good'ol Springfield, MO. I pretty much hung out with the same crowd, seeing familiar faces everywhere I turned. I recently made a huge move, I drove across the country heading west, and once I got to the ocean I decided to stay. Those mountains were a pain on my car, I doubt it would've made it back. So here I am, in beautiful California, I live a bike ride away from the ocean, about three hours away from L.A. and less then an hour away from Mexico. I love it here, however Springfield will always be home. I'll be back every few months or so, my family, my friends, pretty much everything I have ever known is there. School Schools...from Westport to Study to Central then OTC. The best part of all of them were the friends that stayed beside me, school would not have been the same without the people I met along the way. College After graduating Central, I chose to attend OTC. I took the basic classes not knowing exactly what I wanted to do as a career. Three years later, I graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. My focus ended up being on Business and Marketing. I love to learn, so I'd be surprised if OTC was the final learning institution on my bio. Check back to see what happens. Okay so thats not the end, I took some classes and now also have a AAFA (American Aerobic and Fitness Association) certificate for Personal Training and Mat Science (Yoga/Pilates mix). If you're checking back, wondering if I've been enrolled in any other learning institutions the answer is....Yes. I went to a local Community College in So Cal, a little over 1,000 hours later and I am now certified in Interactive Multi-media. For those of you who want to know more, just ask. Basically it means that I'm a total computer nerd now. :-) Workplace Back in high school my first job was at Redneck Trailer Supplies (go ahead, laugh if you need to) I worked there for one summer, it was s w e e t, I was able to drive around company cars picking up necessary parts, plus go to the bank to make cash deposits. Then came Hardee's (Carl's Jr) I worked there forever! I met a ton of friends, and was able to create unique off the me...Expand for more
nu food items, it was fine no real responsibility fell on my shoulders. In the end that is exactly what I wanted though r e s p o n s i b i l i t y so I gave notice and started working at the mall. I had worked at 5-7-9 only a few short months before becoming an Assistant Mgr then up to Co-Manager and well the next step is a no brainer, right? Wrong! I hit a glass ceiling, upper management wasn't ready to leave the position and Gadzooks offered me a deal I couldn't resist. Working at Gadzooks as an Assistant Mgr was great, the company respected your opinions and allowed you to be yourself. After three months I was promoted to Store Manager, and after a few years the big boys ripped out my old store and replaced it with a beautiful new store. Gadzooks taught me a lot, they put me in a position that helped me grow and develop. I began training other Store Managers and was given even more responsibility I loved it, but the only way to continue up the latter was to transfer to a not very warm climate. So I decided to start training my staff to take my place, I have complete respect for Gadzooks and did not want to put them in a bad position. Before resigning, all positions were filled and training was in place. Then California took me by storm, the pay wasn't nearly enough to live off of, so I decided to start my own business and put all that growth and development to use. I run an internet mortgage site, two e-stores, and do marketing for various other sites, it's great, I am able to work hard at home and still have time to enjoy the state I live in. Update on business: I just went Corporate! I am now CEO of a graphic branding company. I do the same business as stated above, however, now I am more involved in the process, designing branding material for small to large companies as well as consulting for Website owners who need better marketing, as well as coding css/html based websites. PS. And the mortgage site...forget about it. Numbers are definitely not my cup of tea, still have and e-business as well as the graphic marketing company though. I may be a computer nerd, but math is not my strong point. Love the coding though. Whoohoo
