Amara's Story
Life
After taking classes at College of Marin and working at Trader Joe's for almost 5 years, I decided to move to New York to study accessories design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. That was in 1994. My boyfriend at the time, Yuri Weber, moved out with me and we got married the following year. We moved to Park Slope, a lovely neighborhood in Brooklyn and where I have remained since. Over the years, I have had a variety of jobs, including millinery studio assistant, home furnishings seamstress, costume production and wardrobe assistant for dance theater. e called Eidolon. It is an outlet where we sell our own hand-made accessories and clothing plus items from other local artists. I have a separate studio, nearby where I create an array of items including custom-made bathing suits, panties, screenprinted t-shirts, leather accessories, hand knits and clothing separates. I have also designed shoes and will be doing more in the near future. In 2003 Yuri and split up and divorced, but remain on friendly terms. Aside from my work, which is fun, I enjoy taking long walks and photography. Brooklyn is a great place for the unexpected and discovery and I absolutely love being here in NY!
