Amelia (Amy)'s Story

Life I'm a second-career lawyer (tax/employee benefits law) who escaped from NYC after living on Staten Island and working in downtown Manhattan for 15 years. Now living outside Albany, NY, for the past 15 years (where has the time gone?!) working at the upstate NY law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King. Divorced five years now, and enjoying life with my two kids, Alex (19, at SUNY Plattsburgh this fall) and Jessica (16, and a more caring child you could never find), and my undisciplined standard poodle with a heart of gold (Homer). Look me up if you are in Albany! I am in the book-- Amelia Klein in Delmar, NY. Although I have been away a long time, I miss many things about Long Island in general and Kings Park in particular. I have come to realize that where you are from has a lot to do with who you are. Kings Park is a good place to be from. Also, if you are a Face_book member, look up your classmates -- there are lotstof us there! My email address is daffydame at hot mail dot com -- say hi! he guy I went to the Senior Prom with... as if anyone remembers who that was besides me, and him! Jeanne Palm was probably one of the most influential teachers I had. She made me believe I could write. Mr. Pedagno, the physics teacher...after the Regents exam, he saw me and hit me with my tennis racquet asking if I had drunk cheap beer the night before, my grade was so bad! I'll never forget that. College SUNY Albany was so big to me. The architecture was staggering. I was anonymous for the first time in my life, and I think I more or less stayed that way all the time I was in NYC...ironically, until I returned to Albany, only to find it now seems like a big village. Those who knew me as bookish in HS would be surprised to know I was on academic probation after my first college semester -- I thought reading the textbook WAS studying, since I had never done that much in HS. Well, I learned what the bell curve meant and I struggled to get out of the bottom of that newer, more rarified curve. Seems like only yesterday, but it was 30 years and more wrinkles and gray hair ago than I care to count.
