Amy's Story

Life I decided to edit this a little since I haven't touched it in over a year...I finally found a minute to do this--I meant to do it last week, but couldn't since I spent a few days in CA with my sister, Sharon and her husband, Dave (for my 39th birthday---aauuugggh!) and then for a few days with my daughter, Kecianne, in her new place in VA. I found time to do this because I can't do anything else right now---Keet talked me into going to a "spinning" class with her on Tuesday night. I've never been to one, so I agreed, which was, in retrospect, mistake number 1. Choosing a bike in the back of the room, where the older models were located (not the newer ones with the nice, cushy seats) was mistake number 2. Being directly behind a 55 year old woman with gas was the third and probably, most costly mistake. Or, so I thought before I woke up yesterday with pain pulsing throughout my entire body, but mostly from the waist down. So, tonight, rather than doing laundry, cleaning up or whatever I would normally be doing that requires actual physical exertion, I decided to devote some time to the internet. Here is the 2008 version: After leaving Bville in Aug. 1990, daughter, Kecianne Maryse & I moved to Utah. Married Jim Merkley a year later & will celebrate our 17th Anniversary in August 2008. The three children we have together are Eden Paige, 16, Ylish Jade, 15 and Asher Pierce, 12. Kecianne turned 22 in June. I worked for Marriott International and Vacation Club for 7 years before switching professions to Corporate Event Planning with PGI. Then, three years ago, I took a job with Delta AirLines and now work in International Sales. We enjoy living in Utah, where there is low to no humidity and where there are many exciting things to see and do. But, we also love to travel and having both flight and hotel benefits comes in handy. Other than traveling and spending time outdoors, I like to read books and watch/...Expand for more
collect movies and have an extensive collection of films in every genre; as well as an equally large cd collection containing everything except rap & most country. I also collect menus from around the world, difficult and unusual puzzles, and Oriental art. My husband lived in Japan for a couple years, so it was easy to acquire some nice things! I love to play Monopoly, Taboo, Scrabble, Pente, Stratego, Phase 10, and Screwball Rummy. Badminton is my favorite outdoor sport. I'm a Spa addict...I love to try different treatments each time we go to the resorts. So far, my favorite is the European Body Scrub at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in CA. Worth every penny. My weakness is Vegas. I love the shows, the lights and most of all, the 25 cent Wheel of Fortune slots. I never play more than $20, but I always win enough to pay for our trip. Ironically, even though I'm in the travel industry, I don't get back to Brookville that often. It's not just the fact that I would have to drive from Pgh or Cle...it's that I really can't stand the weather. I went back three years ago for 10 days and it rained the entire time. What I miss about Bville is the sense of community and the fact that you could leave your doors unlocked and still feel safe. I miss that I could walk downtown and know almost everyone I passed; hoagie sales; the sr. spaghetti dinner, the musicals we did, hanging out at the dam after walking the "catwalk", early morning workouts for the swim team, riding bikes along some of the most beautiful roads anywhere, having everything within walking distance, lightning bugs; Laurel Week; no traffic; working at O-I; and how everything is so green... And of course, there are things I don't miss. But as time goes by, even those seem unimportant in the grand scheme of things. I'm happy with my life, and that's really all that matters. And, yes, I am the only wife Jim has and you CAN get alcohol in UT.
