Amy's Story
Life
I went to college for a Secondary Education BS degree majoring in English and History, then went on to teach Junior High and High School English and Math. I got married my last year of college and we now have 3 children. 2 girls and a boy, all beautiful! I took time off work for 4 years, and decided on a career change, so I'm now back in college for an RN nursing degree.
School
I have been on a wait list for 2 years for nursing classes. Wow, that's a long time to wait, but I have been attending school part time working on my general studies. I will be able to start core nursing classes this fall, and will finish with my associates degree in 2 years. I will then be able to take the boards for my RN lisence. I will continue with my studies working on my BSN and masters degree. While in school, I am hoping to get 2 years of OR experience so I can take the certification test for RNFA (first assistant) which is assisting the surgeon during surgery.
Workplace
My first jo...Expand for more
b was a waitress at Ponderosa, then McDonalds. During college while living on campus, I worked in the cafeteria then in the switchboard office answering phones. I then moved off campus and worked in a medical billing office for 3 years. After finishing school and getting married, I taught 7-8th grade English and Math, and 9-11th grade English for one year. I now work as a NAT (Nursing Assistant Technician) which is a CNA (certified nursing assistant) plus some additional training to assist the nurse with her responsibilities. I am also currently in training for phlebotomy blood draws.
Military
My husband served in the USMC before I met him. I told him I wouldn't have liked him them...Marines are too conceited...lol. He tells me stories from the Marine days. We visited the Washington D.C. area and he showed me all around the city, places he went to regularly while stationed there. We weren't able to get on base because we were there recently after 9/11, and security was tight.
