Amy's Story

Life I am currently a cashier at Long John Silver's about 10-13 hours a week, and am married to a truck driver. I get all the benefits of being married (a paycheck, a family, a house, etc. etc), while only having to PUT UP with my husband on the weekends, LOL ;) My children are now ages 14, 12, 11, and 6. My 6 year old has cerebral palsy. The world of parenting a handicapped child is unique and different, but I have made many good friends along the way. I hear a class reunion is planned for this year. Are we old or what? 21 years, OMG! School Won't tell who my biggest crush was ;) Most inspiring teacher was Miss Patrone. I would NOT do it all over again in now days, because I do not like what is happening in public schools ( I currently homeschool my oldest two). BUT, has anyone seen Southeast High School lately, WOW? Even though I got good grades, I really couldn't stand high school much. I went because I had to. The grades came easy for me, excpet for Spanish, with Miss Hatch. I took a year or so off, then went to ITT TECH, which I loved (except for data processing, that course sucked), when I switched to Business Management and Accounting. Memories of high school? The tornadoes that touched down in Niles, the night before our graduation rehearsal. Mr. Claytor, and some of the wierd faces he would do, when he rolled his eyes. Mrs. Webb, and her tanned skin looked rather unnatural. My favorite things at school were pep rallies. Even though I was not into sports, I liked to show school spirit! Workplace Let' see. I have been a manager at many many fast food joints, over the last 21 years or so. I started out at Taco Bell in Alliance. did that trhough school at ITT Tech. When I graduated from ITT, I went to TN to work with my uncle in payroll and ...Expand for more
accounting. I met my hubby there, moved back to Ohio with him, and had our first child about 3 years later. I have been a shift manager at Burger King and Long John Silver's. I was Assistant Manager at Hardees, Subway, and Long John Silver's. I worked as a cook at Ponderosa, and was an employee of Border Stop, which I generally did everything, as only one person worked per shift, in a mall. I did a few stints as a Service Desk/cashier at Big Lots. I was also a regular employee at a second Burger King and a second Taco Bell. When service is in your blood, i guess you like it, and you stick with it. I have worked with many many people over the years, that should NEVER work in a fast food environment. Some have it, some don't. I stepped down from my Assistant Managers position, at LJS, when I had my last child 6 years ago, to a regular manager position. And since then, I had a two year break from the place, and jsut recently went back as a cashier. I dont' need to work now, and it totally amazes me how these young 20 somethings, can work 40-60 hours a week! But then I remember workin 3 part time jobs, while being 9 months pregnant, when I was in my mid twenties, so I guess it is just me ageing now! I think my 10-13 hours I work a week now, are sometimes to many. I tell the youngin's that just dont' understand WHY I have no desire to be a manager again, WHY would I? I surely don't need the stress, the headaches, the money, the job references, NOTHING. I work because I love what I do, I am good at it, and it is just a phase of growing older I guess. I like work a lot mroe, now that I don't HAVE to work, LOL (Remember when minimum wage was $3.35 an hour, and I swear, we use to think $800 a month bring home, with both of us working was a fortune, before we had kids?)
