Amy's Story

Life 50 years in a nutshell? Hard to do.... I have 2 children, a 33 year old and a 23 year old. I still drive the same 1967 Mustang I drove in high school, although I added a Lexus to the stable when the second child arrived. I'm a Health Educator by profession. I work in the Student Health Center of Cal State University Northridge, doing a lot of work with reproductive health and peer education. I've traveled the United States, climbed Lassen Peak in Lassen National Park, island hopped around the Caribbean, and in the midst of the rat race often longed for a quiet beach to lie on. Loved the Harry Potter series, and am reading the Kennedy Curse at the moment. The Barbara Kingsolver book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" really changed my thinking and how I live in the world. Looking forward to seeing everybody at the 50 year reunion in a few months pandemic permitting! I always wanted to be a pediatrician when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were too hopeful. I hated organic chemistry and microbiology and headed into the applied sciences where I did much better. To de-stress, I head to Burke Williams for a massage. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel closets and the kitchen. My dream home would be eco-friendly and off the g...Expand for more
rid. If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to charity, then spend the rest on travel, home remodeling, and restoring the Mustang. I'm now 66. When I was 12, I thought people my age now would be grandparents. I was so completely naive about how long it would take to become a parent. I'm nowhere near ready to become a grandmother! My oldest friend is Carol Morse Hoy. We met in 3rd grade, and are still friends. I don't know why we clicked...maybe it was Girl Scouts, or Mrs. Holmes' class, or Mr. Bedolli's class. Whatever the spark was, it transcends time and different viewpoints about a lot of things. Just still have a lot of mutual respect and love. My first job was at The Sylmar Sun newspaper, where I got paid $1.65/hr. to proofread. What I remember most about it is I was good at it, and I still proofread automatically to this day, sometimes much to people's dismay.. UPDATE 2022: I've survived the pandemic. Traveled to Bali last summer to visit daughter #2 who lives there now. The kids are now 35 and 25, no grandkids yet. I'm still working full-time and loving my job, so have no plans to retire as yet. I made it to all 50 states by the time I turned 50, went to Australia for my 60th birthday and have now been to every continent except Africa and Antarctica. Maybe by the time I'm 70?
