Amy's Story

Life Married in 1991 divorced in 2004. I have two beautiful children Rachel who is 12 and Ryan who is 8. Both keep me busy but they are worth being tired. I am an RN and I work for Rutherford County as a school nurse Central Middle and Homar Pittard Campus School. I love my job and I am definitly begining to enjoy being single again. My daughter is a playing soccer for her school and also a cheerleader for her magnet school. Ryan loves baseball and basketball and goes to Barfield elementary . School When I graduated form High school I went to MTSU to work on my prenursing requirements. I left ther in spring 1983 to start my nursing program at UTC. I was there from fall 1983 to spring 1986. I graduated from UTC with my BS degreen in nursing. Workplace When I GRADUATED FROM UTC WITH MY NURSING DEGREE I went straight to work at Vanderbilt children's hospital. I worked pediatric medical floor. After two years I wanted more of a challenge and moved into the pediatric intensive care unit. I got tired of the night shift and the sadness that came with a death of a child and wanted to try something new. I then got a job as a recovery room nurse for the main and outpatient OR's. I got a lot of great experience and while there I met my future husband, Mike. I got tired of 2nd shift and call quickly with a new husband so I started looking for something more in sync to married life when I got a job at Baptist hospital in Nashville working outpatient surgery. The hours were perfect and no weekends! I Worked full time there till I had my second child and my husband finally graduated with ...Expand for more
his second degree as a Physician’s Assistant. I thought life was set. However I was so wrong I worked PRN at Baptist and two other surgery centers but when My Daughter started Kindergarten the commute to Nashville interfered with time with my family so I applied for a school nurse position for Rutherford county and did not get on the first try but did on the second. I started there in February of 2000 and continued working PRN at Baptist till this past summer 2002. I now work only for the county and have taken a summer school (11 month) position so I can be with the Children more since I am also now in the process of a divorce form my husband. I love my job and for the past three years have been at the kids’ school here in Murfreesboro, TN. Barfield elementary and Riverdale high school are the schools I work at and there is never a dull moment. School nursing is not at all what I thought it would be but it is the greatest job I ever had and the perks of being a nurse and being with my children as well as snow days and all holiday off are to wonderful to mention. Well the school nurse gig is over for many reasons one is to spend more tme with my children instead of everyone elses. thsi past year i had been moved away from both of my childrens schools making it hard to ever be involved with any of thier activities for thier school. I made a leap of faith and i am going back to working in the hospoital working 12 hour shifts so i can spend more time with my children and be able to do thing with them instead of always missing out.... that and more money girls got to do what a girls got to do
