Amy's Story

Life Hi Everyone! I'm a 1975 grad of MHS whom you may remember from First Choir, Girls Glee (I was piano accompanist), Student Council, Business Staff, Year Book, Lotus Leaf, school dances, etc.-- what can I say, I loved high school. I also ran for Senior Class Secretary. I didn't win, but did have an enormous 3-foot by 50-foot poster I created in art class to splatter my name (not that one would forget "Amy Nutt" anyway) across the entire inside entrance of the building that someone thought to attach just as enormous a wad of bubblegum to -- I was in some odd way honored by this. Those from MCCC (1975-77) would remember me from Student Council, stuffing a VW Rabbit, Agora Chorale, Free Days (rock bands such as Black Rat that I managed to engage for Free Days) and again the newspaper staff as I was editor my sophomore year. After completing an associate of science degree in 1977 at MCCC I married John Weaver, a 1974 MHS grad. In 1978 our son John Michael was born and in 1980 we opened Stitch n Stuff, a needlework store, in Monroe that closed along with many other downtown stores in the recession in 1983. Shortly after that we moved to Novi and I began my home business Colorworx by Amy to market my needlework designs. Since the divorce in 1994 I've had several dozen needlework designs published nationally and I've also self-published a number of books. My books include "Violence in the Arts," a parody of the program Nightline wherein four Renaissance artists battle with each other as to whether violence depicted in their works has effects on viewers. This book was purchased by an east coast library in 2005, while my autobiography "Americanfusion" was purchased by the state of Michigan in 2006. My other books include "Far and Strangeaway Places," "The Conflict of Interest Between Luther and Lennon," a sci-fi trilogy (Fred Zemph, a miner on a distant planet witnesses the destruction of Earth by the ...Expand for more
largest bus he's ever seen which leads to his search for meaning and the writing of an e-Manual that becomes the focus of interplanetery war), and "Why Do These Stupid Things Keep Happening To Me?" featuring my cartoon character Stan ("I think therefore I'm Stan"), a purple bird created in a Petrie dish who's rescued by PETA members as he tries to understand who and what he is and what he might become. I've also helped write and edit two books currently available from amazon.com -- "Alive! The Greatest Sea Rescue in History" (personal stories of the sinking of the Andrea Doria as compiled by a survivor), and "Living with Fibromyalgia" (published in two volumes, the first with chapters by professionals and the second with input from people such as myself suffering from this condition). I completed my bachelors degree in 2000 via correspondence courses with Indiana University and am currently enrolled in an online masters program with Cal State. I'm majoring in humanities and am hoping to give seminars at local colleges while I still enjoy playing piano for my own enjoyment as well. Yes, I have remained busy. I do, however, live a quiet life with my cat Carmel whom I accidentally flattened a few days ago. Rather than risk tripping down the stairs I've been dropping laundry baskets from the upstairs balcony, always looking for him first. Just as I dropped it a few days ago I saw him -- he looked at me -- we both looked at the basket and then he darted, the wrong way. The basket flattened his hindquarters but he wriggled out and ran under the bed. I immediately took him to the vet and he's OKAY. Rattled, but OKAY -- he even snuggled up to me shortly thereafter --but no, I'm not going to be doing that anymore as the flattened image of him just continues like an endless movie loop in my mind. This is my life and why I write. Thank you for visiting and please email me as I love hearing from old friends!!
