Andis's Story
School
In retrospect, school appears as a time during which I was learning many important things that I often did not know I was learning but which have proven useful in later years. My respect for and understanding of my teachers has greatly increased. Teachers who still stand out in my memory were Mrs. Louise Baugher (Guidance Counselor), "Frau" Ruth Buckner (German), Mrs. Suzie Moffit (Debate), Mrs. Irna Coombs (History), Mr. Phil Sprague (Physical Education) and Mr. Dick Beechner (Golf). The most fun times were the golf team, the debate team, the chess club, the great friendships made in various school activities and classes, and of course, driving our 1957 Cadillac to school my senior year.
College
The difference between undergraduate life at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and the study of law at Stanford University Law School in Palo Alto, California was considerable. Undergraduate days are very much marked by an almost existentialist search for one's future path. By the time law school came, the...Expand for more
direction was fixed. Of course, the Stanford period marked the end of the fabulous 60's, especially in California, so that legal education was mixed with the experience of subjectively finding that one was located at the proverbial center of the universe. It was definitely a great time to be alive - and still is, of course - but each era has its own flavor, and the late 60's were just incomparable.
Workplace
The key to professional life is to go out and do what you want to do and are good at doing. Then you will always be successful in your own eyes - which is the most important element of any activity. When I get tired of my work or get to be so good that the repetition is boring, I make new goals and objectives and follow them until I have accomplished what I set out to do. Always have a goal - that is the most important part of maintaining healthy motivation.
Military
A very valuable experience which most young men should go through. I recommend the Marines - it will shape you up and you will grow as a man.
