Life
Hi. I'm living in Las Cruces, NM which is about 60 miles north of Mexico. I'm a librarian but I'm not working at the moment. I have one daughter, Jessica, who is living is Seattle,WA. I would enjoy hearing from people.
Despite what many people think, I do not live in the Country of Mexico. I live in the State Of New Mexico but I will admit it is hard to convince people that I live in the United States. I've started to tell people that I live in the state which keeps Texas and Arizona from having a common boundary.
Temperatures where I live are in the 80s by the beginning of April. Fortunately, the climate is dry since most people use "Swamp" coolers to cool their houses. Water is sprayed onto pads and then the moist air is the blown down into the house.
We even have winter sports. If you like to ski, you can either drive east to the ski resort on Sierra Blanca or go to Cloud Croft. If you aren't interested in skiing, those of us who grew up in colder parts of the country have a di...Expand for more
fferent winter sport. Whenever it snows, we walk down to the nearest traffic light and watch the people who grew up in New Mexico skid into each other when the light turns red.
Labor Day is the holiday when the biggest events happen. You can drive to Deming, 61 miles west of Las Cruces and there are no towns in between the two cities, and watch the Duck Races. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Every Labor Day weekend, people go to Deming and watch people race their ducks. Besides the fun of watching the people trying to get their ducks to run, I think the funnest thing about this event is the fact that the man whose ducks have won First prize the most times is Mr. Robert Duck.
If you aren't interested in ducks, you can drive to the Gila National Forest. If you can't afford the gas, and who can, then drive 36 miles north to the Hatch Chile Festival. The chile comes in red or green and from extra mild to volcanic hot. There's even Chile ice cream.
