Andy's Story

Life August 1986 - now more than 20 years ago - I hit HHH, Hot Humid Houston. Bloody hell it was hot and humid! Asked the family Myers I stayed with if it was Ok if I was complety naked in the house because I could not take the heat - yes there was a problem from their side! : ) Well then, father of a son named Viktor and a daugher named Tyra. Married to Lena since years back. Now back in Sweden working for a company located outside Paris, France. If I look back – I think that I have had a good life with loads of experiences. Of course, once you are right in the middle of living a life – it is not for sure you realise actually how great it is or how great it is to become. But, my life has moved in various directions since I left Texas back in 1987. Worked as a blacksmith after HS. Beachbum in the Caribbean for 5 months. Fitting fishing equipment on Icelandic fishing boats. Company went bankrupt. Studied advertising in the Big Apple. Did an internship as well. Worked too. Loved it. Back home- did radio advertising for a short period. Introduced to finance and technical analysis. Left Sweden in 1995 to study in Heidelberg, Germany to do a BBA. Moved to the Big Smoke (London) in Jan 1997 to finish my MBA. Started working for Carson Europe in 1998 in finance. Moved back to Sweden in 2000 to get married to Lena. Set up my own company - sold parts of it when moved back to London in July 2002. Started working for Citigate Financial Intelligence – still in ownership and finance. While at Citigate, was re-located to Cape Town, South Africa for 5 months which was great. Difficult time though since my father died from lung cancer shortly after returning from CapeTown in Aug 03. October 2003-was made redundant and November 2003 - started working for Lionshares/Factset – still ownership. Took up golf again in 2000 when moving back to Sweden. Quit playing shortly playing for Varsity at KO. Run today an annual charity golf competition in memory of my father. Great fun playing and planning although I wish I managed to raise more money. We are not there yet, but one day we will. Wish I had somehow managed to stay on in the states when finishing up Klein Oak. Even if I only was in Texas as an exchange student and only for a year, I wish I had the opportunity to experience it more. I am happy to say that after all these years being away from Texas and KO high school, I have managed to stay in touch with some people from then. The year at KO turned out to be an important year for me and definitely for my future. It re-shaped me and pushed me further forward as a person. There are loads of “I wish I had…” moments but hey, isn’t that part of life. I am happy that I had the chance to go there and enjoy meeting people, band, KO and Texas. I actually enjoyed all the classes and the teachers while there. I do thank all the people around me during this period and even if memories are still around, it is in the past. Band was great and it was there I had most of my friends, US History was interesting – especially with this teacher, Computers – first time I touched one and programming was quite cool, Public Speaking – definitely my grow-up class – and I wonder what had happened if I didn’t take that class. PE – hey, last class of the day and I had band practise afterwards. The Aviation and Marine Biology classes where interesting but unfortunately a bit difficult due to language problems. Not easy to understand the subject when I had no idea what the “thingie” was and not even what it was called in Swedish. I wasn't born in Texas, but got there as fast as I could! But, life goes on and it definitely has. My goodness, 20 years ago I went to KO as a senior and what a junior I was and hey ... all these years just made me more gorgeous than ever! I could say that I would love to hear from someone ... School School Bio – funny thing about School Bio – I think it is here you should write of how successful you were in School when everyone knows that school was just something you had to go through. At the same time, it is fun to learn things when you realise that you actually learn things. School is school and it is part of your life. But, it is not your whole life and it is definitely a cover to keep you protected from the rest of the world. I wish I had taken the chance and really study well from scratch. And, even if I really did not do that well in School back home in Sweden, I think I ended my school career very well: MBA in International Business: International Business is a mambo jambo major but it is a MBA and I actually graduated as the highest grade point average of the graduates in that major, which I got a reward for. Not bad at all I must say. Not expected...Expand for more
either. The Degree is from Schiller International Uni in London, UK. BBA in Marketing - a degree from an Schiller International Uni in Heidelberg, Germany. These studies developed me tremendously and I am very proud that I managed to go through the school. Not much for the marketing degree, but more for the overall. I was part of the Yearbook staff and part of the Student Government (President). Got a reward for being something important to the school/school spirit. I did also work in the library at the school which was fun. Institutet for Internationell Utbildning (IIU) in Stockholm - my major was in advertising but I studied marketing too since advertising is one of many marketing tools/areas. Best part was spending 6 months in the Big Apple as part of the programme. Studies were at a SUNY university and the internship was downtown NY - very cool! Found plenty of "Free Beer for a Hour" bars around the Y where we stayed. Great stuff! Swedish Upper HS - The Upper HS wasn't much for me. Studied social studies which were quite boring. Didn’t really realise what the outcome of the studies would be. Should have selected an economic programme instead. Had one year at an US HS as an exchange student, Klein Oak HS, which was great time. I enjoyed my HS year at KO that is for sure, and had the chance to meet great people, that I am still in contact with. From 1986 to now - that is quite some time. I do think about my year in Texas and about the people I met during this year. If there was an "I wish I did... ”case I would change it or big bits and pieces. But, at the same time, what happened then made me today! and that is not bad at all. College MBA in International Business from Schiller International University in London. I had a great time and I learnt a lot. Decided to go for a MBA since I started my BBA late - to be more on the same age level. Funny is that a MBA is great but in International Business - what the H is international business. It is everything unless you are purely involved in a local trade. Yeah, selling umbrellas to people in London could be seen as a local trade unless you buy the bloody umbrellas from India directly. Another funny point is that I did my MBA in International Business in London, where I graduated as the Graduate with highest grade point average in my class. NOT BAD at all I must say! Not expected either! Very Proud of that! Three days after I had graduated, I started working for a company called Carson Europe in London, which was part of the Carson Group. BBA in Marketing from Schiller International University in Heidelberg. I went to Schiller International University in Heidelberg to do my BBA. Normally you do the Bachelor level directly or shortly directly after highschool, but I did it much later. Suited me quite well since I was motivated - or at least became motivated while studying. Marketing is a good background to lean back on and since I had studied Marketing and Advertising earlier, it would be good to continue. At least I managed to get rid of a bunch of courses I already had done. Uni was good fun and I developed there a lot. Workplace I am a shareholder specialist analysing major shareholders in listed companies globally. I am also involved in institutional and mutual fund profiles, as well as contacts. This information is used by investment banks, or Investor Relation departments at listed companies. I will definitely need more than 4000 characters to explain what the clients need it for, as well as what I do more exactly. I have been very fortunate to work with something I love working with and this is since 1998. I do now work for Lionshares/Factset, an US company and a leading company in the business. I am based in Stockholm but do belong to the European office in Paris. At my previous work, I was set up for five months in Cape Town in South Africa from my London office, since we had set up a research office there. Good Fun! Other work places: Some weird places to get an experience - or not knowing what I really wanted to do. It was in advertising, radio commercials, tele sales, financial news letters and also bits and pieces of unemployment. Summertime was great. Worked as a blacksmith which was good fun. Made by hand climbing shoes for people climbing up telephone poles. Then involved in the whole process of it. That job unfortunately went down the drain so I got into fishing equipment that was fit to fishing boats. SO, we are not talking about catching a fish - or even 10 fish. We are talking about a Trawler leaving for weeks in the Icelandic waters. But instead of using a net - it used a long-line with hooks. Military K1 in Stockholm. K stands for Kavallary!
