Andrew's Story

Greetings, My Old Maplebrook Schoolies, and Classmates: My name is Andrew Friedman, and I attended Maplebrook School Inc., from 02/1989 - 06/21/1991. My Physical Appearance During That Time, As Of 02/1989 White / 16 yrs., 5 mo. old / 5'9" /165lbs / Brn. eyes, very short--and neatly-kept blk. hair / Glasses with skinny silver frames / Slight blk. mustache My Own Personal Usual Shtick At MBS I was very much into drawing commercial aircraft, for I was a major commercial airplane buff at that time, much like I am, to this very day. Only these days--and since 12/1993, I have been designing airplanes, instead of copying them, as I used to do, at school. I was always drawing airplanes, whenever I had spare time, to do so. I really enjoyed maintaining a healthy sense of humor, always trying to keep things lighthearted. That was my personality at that time, as indeed, it has not changed. My First Arrival At MBS, In 02/1989 My dad had dropped me off at school, I believe it was on a Friday night, in the first third of 02/1989, at approx. 11:PM -e.s.t-, to the Boy's Dorm. Upon my arrival, I was both greeted and interviewed upstairs in the primary office of the house parent, by a very kool and very nice dorm parent, named Mr. Bill Braslin. The meeting lasted approximately 15-20 minutes, whereby afterwards, I was shown to my room on the first floor, where I shared a room with my new friends: Paul Shinbaum, and Brendon Myers., and I think either John Sauer, or Felipe Leiva(?) We were all roomates for a few months, before the staff Betty Bellevaeu/Bill Braslin we began living with new roomies. My first night, I was making some of the guys laugh with my impersonations of different presidents, and imitating my airplane routine, and the guys loved it. That night, we had a serious chuckle and that is one of my treasured memories, during my first beginning moments, at MBS, that night. Lol My first girlfriend at that time at MBS, was a temperamental black-haired girl from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, by the name of 'Tiffany Johnston'. When that whole thing went to pot, Carol Hebebrand quickly took the reigns as 'the cleanup woman', (so-to-speak) and she was extremely nice, tender-hearted, and she had a very gentle soul. She had a serious speaking deficit, but but was still able to talk OK, and she loved to laugh, all the time. My best friends at that time, were Mr. Louis Rothwax, Brendon Myers, John Sauer, Felipe Leiva, Rice Henry, and Andy Kaidish. Andy was assigned to show me around to get me familiarized with the school grounds, as well as some of the rules. Later duringbmy last year, Brian Threadgill, Robert Chyrric, and Donald Hollenback were my three best friends, as well. Some Of The School Staff I Recall Mr. Capalbo, Betty Belleveau, Dr. Roger Fazzone, Chris Fazzone--as well as his girlfriend who was a staff member and who worked in the girl's dorm, Mr. Sitter (who I never really cared for) Mrs. Sitter, Rita, Monica, Ms. Gate...Expand for more
s, Mrs. Brennes, Mr. Jim Worral, Dr. Louis Dement, Mr. Marsden, Ms. Susan Briggs, Mrs. Genadry, and Mrs. Barbara Healy, and of course, the school nurse, Mrs. Theresa Brewer. Whom I Dated, While At Maplebrook > Tiffany Johnson Duration: Approx. 1 month, Feb. - March, 1989 > Carol Hebebrand Duration: March - June, 1989, but at times my friends and I switched it up, and I wound up trying the waters with: Kathy Shevach > Michelle Horowitz Duration: 11/1989 - 04/1990 > Jennifer Straw Duration: 10/1990 - 06/1991, and after my last year at MBS, from: 11/1991 - 09/1993 I have fond memories if the two vans which the boy's and the girl's dorm used for field trips. The two vehicles were the 1980 yellow Dodge school van, and the medium-blue Chevy Vandura van, which the staff used for transporting us to Hartford Bradley Int'l. Airport several times/year, for the holliday breaks. The dorm staff usually got us all got up very early in the morning, at approx. 4:AM -e.s.t-, to get ourselves ready, to go to the airport. Akthough my first short 4 months at MBS, I didn't go on the early morning van rides. My mother came via a limo service in April of that year for Spring Brk. Later at the end ifbthe semester, a limo service picked me up from school in June, where I departed to go back home to Ft. Myers, FL, from EWR, on Continental. The only time I actually took pleasure partaking in the school meals, was during the Alumni weekend. That's when the kitchen staff laid out a fancy spread of several different kinds of quiche, and bacon, as well as sausage, with a choice of juices and hot chocolate--all which were quite alot better than the usual disgusting standard bland, and poorly-made meals we had no choice of eating. My Favorite Restaurant Off Of School Grounds May's Pizzeria. May's was both owned and operated by MBS, as a Vocational Training tool for those of us who were the few higher-functioning students, to both learn and build a responsible and resilient new work ethic. It would certainly come in handy for us, for when we were to leave school, where we had the chance to get off to a good start, out in the world. My Favorite Field Trips > 03/1989 - My first field trip during my short stay at MBS, the Statue Of Liberty in NYC - We boarded a full-size Wayne brand school bus which was parked right in front of the Boy's Dorm. And I'll never forget that they after all of us kids and teens were seated, Betty Belleveau got on, stood at the frint of the bus, and shouted to us: "We know you get aroused! Keep your hands to yourself! You can look, but don't touch!..." Lol... My g/f and I (Carol Heberand) were sitting next to each other, I had the window seat, and I was just think'n to myself... 'Yeah, OK! Whateverrr!' Lol Ski trips, to Catamount, in the months of Feb., and March. I both love and greatly miss ALL of my old MBS friends and allies, and I sincerely hope that you all are doing well, and may the Lord bless you all, richly! Sincerely, Andrew Friedman
