Andrew's Story
My memories of high school are rapidly fading. I remember that the classes were a cakewalk and that I was depressed most of the time; I had some pretty serious emotional issues back then, but that's what being a teenager is all about, right? Getting out of Spokane was the best thing I ever did, so I visit only when family business forces me to.
I spent a year as a Clarinet Performance major at Pacific Lutheran University before I came to my senses. I switched to Computer Science and received my B.S. in 2000. Most of my current friends are people I met in college.
After graduation, I accepted a contract at Microsoft as a Programmer/Writer; P/W is what they call people that can write both English and code (a rare trait, believe me). MS has a stupid rule that contractors can work for only a year at a...Expand for more
time, after which they have to take 100 days off before they can get another contract. Consequently, I've had several contracts and several "enforced vacations" over the last few years. I'm currently a vendor, which means that I don't have to take the 100-day break anymore. I write documentation that tells developers how to write online features for Xbox 360 games; look for my name in the credits of Gears of War 2, Banjo Kazooie, and Lips.
My wife Sara and I live in Bellevue, WA; we got married in July 2008, and it's been great! I'm far happier that I've ever been, and I can't help but feel that I've wasted a lot of my life in fear and depression. I take consolation in the fact that all of the mistakes I've made have led to finding the love of my life, and I can't wait to start a family together!
