Andrew's Story
School
My family moved a lot so I changed schools a lot. In fact I was never in one school more than 2 years until in College I attended Bakersfield JC for 2.5 years. I loved science and Entered the Science Fair a couple of times. I was a director on the South Carolina Jr. Academy of Science. I was active in several clubs. Math club, Chess Club, Science Club, Key Club, Drama Club. I was in several plays in high School. The vice-principal typecast me as Caligula in The Robe. This worried me a little, but I think he might have been right. In high school I played varsity football as a nose guard and tight end of all things.
College
I took Chemical Engineering. the first semister I took 21 units and passed! I got a little smarter after that. In college I played football as a cornerback because I was too small for any other position. I was elected Chief Justice of the Student Body. -NEV-HA district Governor. At BC I was a teachers aid for Mrs. Lee in Chemistry. After BC I went to San Jose State. becasue I was juggling school and work I did not have time to participate in many school aciviteis other than study.
Workplace
I worked at Bakers Welding for 2 years. I then worked at Gerin Welding Supply in Santa Clara eventually becoming president and owner. We sold Gerin in 1996 to Praxair. I consulted with Praxair for 3 years and then went into semi-retirement. I started a jewelry store, Tailored Gems, Inc with a partner in 1985. We closed the store in 2005. I am the general partner of KARN Properties, LLC. I am also the President of Generic Resources, Inc., S & D Partners and Rapt Investments. I say I am "semi-retired" because all these business are structured so that they operate with minimal input from me. I was appointed to the Santa cCara Unified School Board in 2004 and relected to that position in 2006.
