Andy's Story
I didn't actually graduate from Baker, just went there more than anywhere else. Those who knew me well knew I had great problems at home with my parents. I left home a month and a half after my 16th birthday and spent a year in the Ohio court systems as a ward of the court. I was granted emancipated youth status on a Weds. morning in July of my 17th year and left with no looking back. I spent time traveling the country and settled in San Diego, Ca. where I finished my GED and attended Mesa Community College, receiving a Certified Medical Assistant degree, and meeting the woman who would be my wife for almost 30 years. Worked in some hospitals then the lure of BIG easy (yah, right) money called me to the oil fields of North Dakota and Montana. I caught the last 8 months of the boom and was stranded in North Dakota when it ended. nd I just never left the profession. After a couple years driving in the oil patch even that work slowed down and I made the leap to over-the-road long hauling. I became addicted to the money that could be made, and loved the travel it afforded me. After a couple years of working for others and losing my job just as things would be getting good I bought my first truck vowing to never allow someone else to control my livelihood again. I never looked back and I have worked for myself for the last 25 years, and I must say that trucking has been very good to me. The marriage is now on the rocks (why do women always wait til you are on top of the world to leave?)and I don't entertain a great deal of hope for it's survival. Not my choice, but there ya go. I currently live in Billings, Montana, and have for the last 10 years. This after 5 years in San Diego, 4 winters in Dickinson, North Dakota (you don't count years there, you count how many winters you survived)and 15 years in Vancouver, WA.
