Andy's Story
Life
I have been fighting wildland fires for 30 years across the western United States. Ive worked on Hand Crews, Helitack, Engines and now Dispatch and Logistic Coordination.
I have a beautiful 30 year old daughter Gretchen who got married last May and lives in Portland Oregon. I am eligible for retirement and looking forward to new adventures,like my new passion (flying dual line stunt kites)
Workplace
I started fighting wildfires for the USFS in Washington state in 1975 and worked on handcrews until 1981. Then I worked on...Expand for more
a firefighting Helicopter Crew in Oregon. In 1984 I started working on Fire Engines and managed a remote Guard Station in Idaho from 1986 - 1988. I continued working as a Fire Engine Operator on the Klamath National Forest in California from 1988-2000. I started Dispatching on the Coronado National Forest in Arizona, and then as an Inital Attack Dispatcher on the Modoc National Forest in Northern California untill April 30th 2006. I am now semi-retired and contract back as a Logistics Coordinator for large fires during the summer.
