Angela's Story

I AM NOT ANGELA! SHE WAS OUR DAUGHTER AND SHE DIED ON AUGUST 8, 2016. I would love to hear from any of her friends, but I AM NOT ANGELA!! That is old news, as she is no longer alive. Thanks, Janis Blackburn (her mother) I am ACTUALLY Angela's Mom, but knew that Angie had many friends in theater, choir & Small Group at Anderson. Angela passed away on August 8, 2016 at age 50 years. She was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called :cholangio carcinoma.. Hers was the rarest of this type of cancer, which develops in the bile duct and by the time it get's to the liver, it is usually a late stage 4, as her's was.. She lived in Houston and had her degree from U of H, in Finance & math. She was employed as the executive financial officer and chief accountant at her job and she LOVED it so much! She was a devoted Christian and was married to her husband and they have 2 girls,. She adored her children and she had loved choir, theater and Small Group so much and LOVED all the classmates that she was involved with at Anderson.. She attended Abilene Christian University for two years and then came home and got a job here, managing multi family condos. She then moved to Corpus Christi and finally to Houston, where she DID finish her education at U of H. in Finance & Math. Had hoped to get her CPA in accounting, but because of her husband's MS. she was the total breadwinner and between her work and taking care of Sebastian and the girls, she didn't have a lot of extra time for any more schooling. She loved gardening and doing wonderful designs for the yard for all the holidays. The neighbors loved to bring their kids to see her designs! We MISS her terribly and I don't think we will ever be the same again. She was my best friend and adored her Daddy and older brother! Have to put a warning for all of you, as there seem's to be no way that she could have contracted this type of cancer. It is almost always completely deadly and she was feeling tired when she came home for Mother's dary and promised me to go to her doctor and have a complete checkup. She did this in late May of 2016 and got a complete good bill of health! Had complete blood work and it showed nothing! She tried going back to work, but soon was too weak to work, and became violently sick, with pain in right side, vomiting, etc. (all sounds like gall bladder, but wasn't that at all. Was sent home from ER with DX of severe gastritis, which was NOT so at all. She was taken to minor emergency center the following week and they IMMEDIATELY saw that she had jaundice and the intense itching was a sign of LIVER problem. They ran every test there is on her and DX'd Intrahepatic cholangio carcinoma on June 8th. with Stage 4 cancer. , They tried some chemo and a surgery that is perfored in China, as it is NOT rare there at all!. Angie didn't drink, smoke or do drugs and didn't have hepatitis, which are the ONLY things that seem to go along with this diagnoses in the U.S. She had never been to China or Asia, where so much of this is located. HOWEVER, she & her husband always celebrated wedding anniversaries, birthdays and any other special event with SUSHI and she assured me that they ALWAYS GOT THE VERY BEST, but the thing that causes this ty...Expand for more
pe of cancer is called and "Asian Fluke" and it is found in raw fish, usually in Asia and in China. I cannot prove it, however, that is the ONLY thing that she did that could have caused this very rare cancer! I just wanted to warn all of you to NOT EAT SUSHI or any raw fish, which could have the Asian FLUKE in it. That is what causes this type of cancer and she had no other vices. She was in Herman Hospital in Houston & then at her mother in law's house *HUGE) at about 6,000 sq. ft. and we were able to stay with her a LOT and be with her when she had to go back to the hospital for re-do of stent and try the last chance surgery after having the chemo. She was in terrible pain and from being DX;d on June 8th, she was only able to hold on until August 8, when she died. She was just 50 years old and her girls were barely 13 and 8 years old. If ANYONE reads this and knew Angela; PLEASE spread this around, so perhaps other's will not have this horrible disease! She could not believe it, when she got the diagnosis of cancer and then to find out it was the very worst, she was devastated! WE ALL WERE and still feel so empty from her absence. She was truly unique, so intelligent, ,such a good Mom and good wife and LOVED her work! Not many of us can say that. I will try to add a picture at a later time, but my printer doesn't recognize my p.c. so can't do it today. She was still gorgeous, with a wonderful laugh and gorgeous grin and her kid's loved her to pieces! Any of you who knew Angela, most likely know me as all of you came to our house so often and I helped with both choir and theater, so seemed that I was at Anderson, so much of my time. I loved helping out! If anyone want's to contact me, we are still in Austin. We stay up really late and get up really late (after 1:00 p.m.) but you can contact me or phone me. That would be fine with me. She wanted everyone to know what happened as there was not a regular funeral, but a "celebration of life" in Houston on September 17th, as they postponed the services, due to her daughter's birthday falling just three days after her Mommy had died. WE try to console ourselves with the knowledge that she is in Heaven with God and we WILL see her again someday, but this is NOT what is supposed to happen. It is supposed to be her Mom & Dad that die before she die's! It doesn't always work that way, however! If you are a Christian, please keep her family in your prayers and extra for me & her Dad. We are not doing as well as we would like to do, as it happened so quickly and there was not enough time to adjust to what was happening to our wonderful Angela! Thanks to those who were her friends! You meant the world to her, when she was at Anderson & to those who went camping with us; she still talked about you often. Also, to all of you who hung out at our house a lot; thanks so much for being Angela's friends!! Love to you all! Wish I wasn't wring this, but that it was Angela who was telling you what has happened to her and it was all good news! God bless all of you and keep you safe. Don't take one day of your life for granted. I am sure we had and thought both Angela and her brother would outlive us by MANY years! JANIS BLACKBURN
