Angela's Story

Life I have great memories from each place I attended as a child, teenager and young adult. Peoples' for me was about the best friends, some of who still are today. As an educator now, I'm not sure why we played in a "playground" that was actually a parking lot but it was fun mixing the brown and white snow and making cakes, I guess (hmmm). Malvern was an amazing school, especially by today's standards. I learned to play my first instrument, fell in love with photography because there was a working darkroom and the teachers there were amazing. t took years to fit in but what helped, finally,was being in a brass quintet and meeting people through something I was really good at. Music opened the world up for me. I still today do not understand why young people have to be so hard on their peers who happen to be willing to show that they're intelligent. Thankfully at York and in the Faculty of Education, intelligence was welcomed (although some alumni might chuckle to read that) and I found myself more challenged. A hallmark of my education experience was that most of my teachers were stellar--oh, there were BIG exceptions but they were rare and manageable. Now I am a mom and a part-time teacher and I always do my best to be supportive of those children because they are the next generation.
