Angela's Story

Life After high school, I attended college (see college bio) and graduated in December of 1998. I continued to live and work in Kirksville, Missouri as a graphic designer in the marketing department of the regional hospital in town. I moved back to Chicagoland in November of 2000. After about four months of temp jobs I aquired a Production Artist position at Rand McNally. Yep. The map people. I am currently employed there and I really like what I do. I don't make the maps, but I touch a lot of product in other ways. I live nearby to where I grew up and I have two nephews who are each adorable in their own way, but I guess I have to say that because I'm their Auntie Ange. I try to stay pretty active. I participate on my company's volleyball and softball teams when they are in season. I also get out and Geocache every once and a while (hiking in the woods with a GPSr looking for "treasure") and I bowl in the company's bowling league in the summer. My newest obsession is roller skating. I go roller skating every Friday at the Playdium in Glenview. It's lots of fun and great exercise. I also try to get out to see the roller derby. This January I even tried out fo rthe 2007 season. I didn't make the cut, but the experience was great. I haven't ruled out trying again next year. School I'm not sure how you may remember me. I remember being a happy hardworking student...most of the time. I wasn't involved in any one "click" but floated around among several - and not necessarily the most popular ones. I was editor of the yearbook, so you may remember me from there. Or I may have wrapped your ankle at some point in the training room after school. You may be one of my fellow band-geeks or were in drama and might remember me from the orchestra pit of a musical. But, hopefully, you all remember my Pinto! College I attended Northeast Missouri State University, which they now call Truman State University, in Kirksville, Missouri. I majored in Visual Communications. I re...Expand for more
ally enjoyed the town and lived and worked there for two more years after I graduated in December of 1998 with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I didn't join any sororities, but I was very active with my dorm - I lived there for three years and was always a member of the activity leaders and staff. This allowed me to participate in many of the campus activities including Homecoming and the highlight of my Junior year, the Spring variety show in which we stole the show. While still in school I held a job with a local newspaper on their production staff and then aquired a graphic designer position in the marketing department of the regional hospital in town. I left Kirksville in November of 2000. Workplace I've had many different jobs since I was 18. I first worked in retail at OfficeMax while I was still in high school and college. One I technially "moved" to my college town I worked in a restaurant as a prep cook, at a local newspaper on teh production team, and at the local hospital as a graphic designer in the marketing department. I also took second jobs at a convenience store/gas station and as a designer/production assistant with a former employer. After I left my college town, Kirksville, MO, is 2000, I returned to Mt. Prospect and signed on with a temp agency which placed me in call center for Sarah Lee and I also answered phones and took orders for a local business. But then, after sending out a few resumes, the offer came through to interview with Rand McNally (the map people) and I have been working for them six solid years as of March. I really enjoy the work I do. I'm a production artist (a very technical graphic designer for those who aren't sure) in the Design department and I work with a wide variety of people. Some of teh projects I work on even offer me the chance to travel on business trips, though only to printing plants in small, obscure towns in states like Ohio, Minnesota, and mainly Wisconsin. But I enjoy my work and am proud of the company.
