Angelic's Story

Life Life seems to be changing rapidly. Everything had a slow pace when I was in school (HS/College at BSU). Now that I'm out of Indiana & married, I've moved to Cambridge, MA (near Boston), then to Malden, got a new job, and got rid of my car for public transporation. I FINALLY (just recently) secured a job as a Graphic Designer at SignArt, Inc. in Malden and Chris (my husband) and I moved to a more spacious apartment. I received a B.F.A. from Ball State University in May of 2005. I really thought I would do well as a graphic designer (and had great prospects in Muncie after winning a Gold Addy Award for some of my student work) but the move to the Boston area after getting married in July meant moving to a place where I had no contacts. As time went on, Chris and I were being suffocated by living on one income in the most expensive city in the United States (yes, we just beat out N.Y. and L.A.) so I decided to apply for other positions that looked interesting though they weren't my dream job. I was hired as an Admin for an Architectural firm called Beacon Architectural Associates. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by my co-workers. I was warned by a number of people that architects are difficult to work with (not that I haven't worked with difficult people in the past I thought). I enjoyed working with them but the responsibilities of an Admin are not very interesting or inspiring. I wasn't satisfied with the job so I keep my feelers out. As I mentioned before, I have finally secured a job as a graphic designer and I am much happier. While starting a new job is never easy I feel as if I'm learning and I'm now headed down a road toward becoming a professional. (On a career path instead of working at a dead-end job). My last job was somewhat stuffy in the atmosphere but my current position has much more freedom - at least it may seem that way since I'm doing something I enjoy. I have fun designing menu systems, ads, banners, newsletters, vehicle wraps, menus, signs and more for small businesses and more established ones like Finagle A Bagel, Trani, & Kelly's Roast Beef. Chris works for InterSystems and has a degree in Computer Science. He helps the company with support for a product/language called Cache. He's the one that convinced me to move out here and I have to say I love this city. Boston has SO much American history: the first public park, the first subway stop, the first college, and the list goes on. There's so much to do and see here and so many great free events. We got to see KC and the Sunshine Band for free as well as Avril Lavigne. There...Expand for more
are even free classical concerts and Shakespeare in the park. How awesome is that? Recently I have been volunteering at Havard Square Churches Meal Program. I help prepare and serve meals to the homeless. It has given me a new perspective on life and I have to say that some of the homeless I've met are some of the most interesting people I've ever known. When I'm walking the streets I'm always amazed by some of the musicians or the homeless that are inspiring to me. For instance, I was going in for an interview and a homeless man stopped to ask me if I could give him a quarter. I told him I didn't have any money and I was trying to get a job. He told me that I should read Matthew 20:21 and said that if I asked God for the job that I would receive it. He tracked down a floating piece of paper on the street and wrote down the verse for me. I thought to myself... "I wish I had the guts to do that." To catch you up on my family... my parents are living in Saint Joe still and my brother is going to Ball State and is living with his steady girlfriend (Sam) and bought a home in Muncie with my parents' help. I haven't changed much over the years (at least I don't think so). I have gained more confidence and I think I'm less shy... Now I'm a city girl and I constantly fight being hardened to the world. Things are different here but not all good or bad. School My favorite teacher in H.S. was Mrs. White. I still write her e-mail every now and then. She was the person that prepared me the best for college and taught me the most. I would do high school all over again. I think it will remain some of the best times of my life. I enjoyed band, my friends, the formation of loving relationships and the new-found freedom of having a vehicle. (Ironic now that I ride the subway everywhere and don't have a car). One of my funniest memories is from band. Mike Dart and Eric fell asleep in "Santa's House." During the holiday season the band room always won the Christmas decorating contest. Anyway, one day everyone came out of their practice rooms to start rehearsing as a group for concert band. Mrs. Randinelli came out while I was tuning the rest of the sections. When we were about ready to start Randa began yelling for Mike and Eric (who had parts they needed to play). They came out of "Santa's Cardboard House" sleepy-eyed with fake snow stuck to the side of their faces. When Randa asked them if they were sleeping they told her they weren't but it was quite obvious that they had been. So when Randa asked them what they WERE doing in there everyone just split a gut laughing.
