Angie's Story
Workplace
I started working at Long John Silver's when I was 16 years old. I stayed there for 11 1/2 years.
After leaving Long John Silver's I work in advertising at the Cleveland Daily Banner for about a year.
I took a sales position with Luck Color Lab for about six month. My job at Luck Color Lab required me to travel to trade shows. I enjoyed the traveling part. My friend Debbie Janis worked there too, so we got to travel together. When I wasn't traveling I made sales calls over the phone. I hated sitting in my office making sales calls. All the other jobs I have had in my life allowed me to be active. I left Luck Color Lab after about 6 months.
I decided to stay home with my daughter for a while before going back to work. That didn't last long. My phone rang one day and it was WCLE. One of my clients at the Cleveland Daily Banner gave WCLE my phone number. They said they were looking for a sales person and I came highly recommended. . I stayed there about a year. The sales part was easy. Writing radio commercial scripts is hard.
I ended up back in the restaurant business again. This time I was a partner in Rymer's Restaurant. I loved it. I decided that I was going to leave at the end of the year in 1998. I was going to be a stay at home mom.
I stayed home for about a 1 1/2 years. During this time I helped Gerald Williams at Flowers 'n' Things. He needed extra help at holidays and when someone was sick. I was getting pretty bored at home, so it was great to work every now and then. Gerald taught me a little about floral design.
In July of 2000 Gerald told me that he wanted to sell the shop and that he thought I would be great at running the business....a few weeks later, I was the proud owner of Flowers 'n' Things. I bought the building, the land and the business. I had to learn a lot of stuff real quick. I have had Flowers 'n' Things for 7 years. We have recently added Flowers 'n' Things Karaoke. We do private parties and special events.
