Anita's Story

Right now I am in the midst of writing a series of books for young children, ages 2 through 7, I think. Recently Bill and I met with my publisher and artist, working out some format issues. We have no idea yet about when these will be published. It all depends upon the artist. We are all quite excited about this. After I left ORHS? I went to Bryn Mawr College for 3 semesters, and then went to Tikal Guatemala to do research in Maya archaeology in the lab while he did the field research for his PhD. We climbed all of the temples. Beautiful place, stunning. You cxannot imagine how powerful it is. Perhaps you saw them as the "Rebel Base" in Star Wars. Our three sons were born in 1963, 1965, 1974, and they are all off on their own now. Happy, healthy good men. We have combined five grandchildren. Through the miracle of blended family love we became great-grandparents in September of a bright little girl! We lived in Vermont from 1965 to 2000 on 30 acres. We "kept" animals, raised most of our own meat, and loved it all (but it was hard watering and feeding when it was 45 below...Expand for more
zero!). Lambing was one of my favorite times of the year. Bill taught anthropology at the University of Vermont and wrote best-selling text books. I graduated from there in 1983, Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. We are now living on the coast of Maine on Deer Isle, a lovely little island where Bill spent summers growing up. We're loaded with tourists and summer people for half of the year, but the other half is quiet and quite private. We're once again quite rural both on the shore and in our winter home, back off the dirt roads on which we live. There are coyotes close by, and I have crows and ravens who come and peer in at me while I am on the computer, looking to see if I will put out more food. There is a wild turkey who has taken up residence on the patio of our shore cottage. And of course, we are over run with deer. We spend a lot of time in the warm months exploring the local islands, going out in our "lobster" (picnic) boat as often as we can. My other current activity for the most part is quilting. I follow my own designs and colors, making them all quite different.
