UPDATE: The City of Big Rapids is offering early retirement and I'm taking it. We went to Sun City, AZ and purchased a house in a 55+ community. I also applied for and got a new job with a fleet management software company in Phoenix so I'll be retired for a total of 2 weeks. My last day with the city is Oct. 31 and we'll leave driving to Phoenix on Nov. 1. I start my new job as Customer Retention manager on Nov. 15. It's a great job working with wonderful people in a place where you don't have to shovel snow. What could be better?
I've worked for the City of Big Rapids, MI for 21 years. Only 6 more years to go til retirement, then we move to Arizona/Nevada (not sure which yet). I've been married for 37 years. We have no kids but we do have 4 dogs. My husband Larry is retired so he's just taking life easier. In November 2000 he went into cardiac arrest. I did CPR on him and kept him going until the ambulance could get here. He had a very small chance of living and if he did, he would have sever brain damage. Well, that's not what happened. ircuited so that he only has a small short term memory problem. Ever since then, we take life as it comes and don't worry about too many things.
Recently: in November 2011, I fell & hit my head on the tile floor at MidFirst Bank where I had worked since December 2008. I ended up at Barrows Neurological Hospital with a bad concussion & deep brain bleed. I went back to work in January 2012, but found out later that I never should have returned to work. I didn't realize how much was wrong in my brain until I started having problems at work. I experienced severe dizziness, a personality change to for the better & other problems including weight gain of 50 lbs. I finally applied for & got social security disability & also get a small disability payment from the bank.
I enjoy being at home with my husband, 5 dachshunds & 1 cat. I'm currently taking a class on making dichroic glass for jewelry, wire warping & volunteering at the visitors center here in Sun City. It's a great place to live with lots of things to do. I might not remember what I wanted to say or do but I'm learning to live with my problems & enjoying life.
