Ann's Story
I never guessed that I would retire to Florida, then Georgia and back to Maryland. After a career in geriatric nursing, I switched to association management in 1985 working for the non-profit long-term care association in Maryland and then for the national association, Leading Age in Washington, D.C. I was a VP for Membership and State Relations.
My first husband, Glen Geniser, died when I was 32. I never had children. I changed my name legally to my mother's maiden name in 1978. I kept it when I married again in 1982.
I ended up in Maryland after marrying Dan Boyle in 1982. Although I met Dan in Minnesota, his job was with the Federal government in Maryland so I left Minnesota after 38 years. I become a weekend stepmother to two teenage girls. They are now in their mid 50s, both single, both massage therapists in Alexandria, Virginia.
When Dan retired in 1997, I quit my job and moved with him to Naples, FL. We had a lake cabin for the summer in Detroit Lakes, Minneso...Expand for more
ta but that lasted only two summers. We were not lake people. Eight years later we left the high prices, hurricanes, and congestion of Naples, Florida for Warner Robins, GA where we lived six years before returning to Maryland to be closer to family.
We live at Charlestown Retirement Community, a large CCRC, on the outskirts of Baltimore. My parents lived there for 18 years. We moved in while they were residents. We have a nice 5th-floor view of the Baltimore skyline from our apartment. We are active in a variety of activities. I run the Apple User Group and served as President of the Residents' Council. I also have learned Wordpress so I have been the webmaster for the state and national continuing care residents association websites. I served as the President of the Maryland Continuing Care Residents Association. We did enjoy traveling until the pandemic. I enjoyed the Zoom classmate get-together. Since you do luncheons, it is not feasible for those of us who live away.
