Life My life and career have been a series of transitions that began with my high school dream of writing, speaking, and traveling as an “ambassador” for sewing(!). The dream really took shape in 1984 when I was hired in Chicago as manager of public relations and training for the U.S. subsidiary of a Swiss sewing machine company (Bernina). From there I transitioned into conducting sewing seminars nationwide for a sewing-book publisher, while also freelance writing for sewing publications. After my first husband died in Detroit at Christmas in 1987 (after 6 1/2 years of marriage), I moved back to Seattle and continued speaking and writing until I tired of business travel and transitioned into writing and editing only. Through the 1990s I transitioned into other subject matter too, writing and editing for a wide range of businesses.
