Ann's Story

I always wanted to be in a helping, or "caregiver" profession when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. My favorite way to relax is to play games, or take a nap The wildest thing I ever did in school? I DON'T KNOW. I really was not a "wild child". I think my hero would be my mother, because she was and still is a great one-my best friend. Her kids always came first! I have lived in North, Orangeburg, St. Matthews, Neeses-all in South Carolina. I did live in Ohio for about 2 years when I was like 3-5 years old. My Dad was stationed at Larstown(?spelling) Arsenal in the Army. My husband and I have the most precious little dog in the world. She is a Shih Tzu, about 9 1/2 years old. She is like a member of the family. I've never known a dog with a sweeter temperament, and she is no trouble at all. She does sometimes get a little upset with us if she thinks she has been left alone too long, and she lets us know it by tearing up some trash. Well, she can't be TOTALLY perfect! If I could choose one teacher to see again, I think it would be Mrs. Virgina Crib. Why? Because she was a great teacher, and a wonderful person. She knew her subject matter and knew how to help her students learn it. She was always patient to help her students with questions, or repeat her teachings until we "got it". Of course, I'll have to wait to see her again in heaven. I had quite a few good teachers who made a positive impression on me. What makes me happy? ...Expand for more
Just spending time at home with my husband watching TV or a good movie. And spending time with my family. I hope my old friends remember me as an overall good and kind person. A loyal friend, a confidant, striving to be the best I could be, no matter the task or endeavor. I think maybe I have the cart before the horse here. After high school, I attended and graduated from the Orangeburg Regional School of Nursing and became a RN. I worked at the then Orangeburg Regional Hospital for about 2 1/2 years. Let me backtrack a little. I got married while still a nursing student, and had my first child while still in nursing school. Makes things a bit harder, especially when the little one hates to see Mama with books on her lap instead of him, but it all worked out fine. I had my second son while working at the hospital. I hated being away from my children at night so much, so I looked for employment that didn't require shift work. I found a job with DHEC, and worked several program areas, but finally settled in to Home Health Nursing where I remained until I retired in 2002. My sons are now 33 and 36 years old. I have 4 grandchildren: 2 granddaughters ages 11 and 20. I have 2 grandsons ages 12 and 16. And of course they are all georgeous! My husband and I have been married over 37 years now. We like to travel when we can scrape together enough money,ha. We also enjoy quiet days and nights at home together. Like all families, we have had our ups and downs, but God has been with us through all of them.
