Annie's Story
Life.
My name is Ann Marie (Annie) Ramirez, and I am 29 years old. I hold several billets at the moment, but the main ones are that of mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and child of God. I have many dreams, some have materialized, some I am still truckin' on. I believe that faith and love can make anything happen. I believe perseverance is key to making it through this crazy life of ours. I have my faults just like every one has theirs, however, I prefer to not be around people and unhealthy situations.
Can't afford to let it rub off on me, and get me and my family down!
I am a Marine Corps Veteran and was active duty for 7 years. In October '04 I received my honorable discharge and I decided to cash in on the Montgomery GI Bill I earned and pursue my college education full time. My MOS in the Corps was 6531, or Aviation Ordnance Technician. I got to work with some heavy duty things that go "Boom!" The platform of aircraft I worked on were AH-1W's and UH-1N's. Super Cobra's and Huey's. It was pretty cool and I enjoyed it for the most part the first few years with deployments overseas and seeing the world and different parts of the country. But then I became interested in the human services field when upon re-enlisting I became a Substance Abuse Control Specialist (SACS) and Assistant Family Advocacy Officer at the Marine Helicopter squadron I was assigned to. So when I got out of the Corps and went to school full time, I earned my AA degree in psychology from Red Rocks Community College in Colorado. I am continuing my education and pursuing my Bachelors in Social Work. That is how how my husband Chris and I originally met, when we worked together as Aviation Ordnancemen at the last squadron I was assigned. This past overseas deployment he had, I stayed with our children in Colorado and took time off going to school full time to travel and focus on our children, taking the chance to be a stay at home mom for our baby daughter we had a little over a year ago. I am looking forward to going back to school full time at our new duty station in Maryland, to continue my degree in Social Work. It's been a blessing being able to stay home and not work, but I am so ready to get myself back out there!!
I am overall happy and grateful about where life has taken me, the people I have met so far in my lifetime that I have gotten to make some valuable memories with. I continue to look forward to the future, trying as much as possible to stay positive about where life will take me and my family even further! School
There's so much to put on here about high school. All in all I enjoyed my high school years. I enjoyed having my locker besides Sallie, Chad and Mikey for all those years and getting to know all of them. They were some good peeps.
I loved partaking in sports at SHS, for the most part anyway. Until I learned all about the politics that came with it and decided it just wasn't what I wanted to be a part of.
Biggest crush? Well, lets see...My first real "puppy" love was Matt. My most intense was Ryan. The one "I" regret hurting was Josh, and I fell for a good friend named Noey.
I remember getting ratted on for stealing (along with other team mates of mine) shorts and jersies at the Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball camp the summer before my junior year. That whole situation was crazy. Have never stolen anything since.
Oh and who can't forget our class of '98 beer bong quite a few of us ladies partook in bonging out of and signing?

nd then of course there's getting caught underage drinking at a party with a friend of mine while the both of us were part of the Sterling Police Explorers program. Good times!
College
I started taking college courses through Central Texas College when I was on active duty in the Marine Corps. Upon taking three classes with them I submitted my military SMART transcripts to be evaluated which gave me almost 40 credits as a part of CTC. Upon my discharge I transferred to NJC in Sterling, Colorado where I went for semesters before transferring to Red Rocks Community College upon moving to Golden, Colorado in 2005. I finally received my first associates degree from Red Rocks Community College in August 2006. I then became a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa when I moved out here to continue working on my Bachelors in Social Work. So I just keep trucking along with my college education.
Workplace
In high school I worked at Burger King, Wendy's, JC Penney and Wal-Mart. Then work became the Marine Corps for about 7 years. Then it became being a full time college student on top of being a mom and wife. Now since I'm taking time off college to have the baby, I'm a full time homemaker!
Military
I reported for Marine Corps recruit training on January 20, 1998 and graduated on April 17th, as a part of platoon 4013 of 4012 series, Papa Company. I got 10 days of boot camp leave and then reported for Marine Combat Training in North Carolina.
After my two weeks of MCT, I received orders to Naval Air Station Pensacola where I went through the Basic Ordnanceman Course and graduated there a 6511 in late July 1998. From Pensacola I went on to the Helicopter Ordnance Course at FREST, Camp Pendleton, California where I became a 6531 in October 1998. Upon graduation from FREST, I received my first orders to a line squadron and checked into HMLA-169 in October 1998.
As a part of HMLA-169 I did numerous deployments within the US as well as deploying overseas. It was my initial intention to only do a four year enlistment, however, upon becoming an single mom I decided to re-enlist for another 3 years to get myself prepared a bit more financially and academically for when I do get out. So when it came time for me to re-enlist I was given my choice of duty station which was still at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, but as a part of HMT-303.
303 is a training squadron where air crew and helicpopter pilots are made and experienced pilots receive refresher training. Upon having pinned on the rank of sergeant before checking in, I was given more responsibilities in managing the daily operations and functions of the ordnance department. I learned how to effectively run the maintenance shift I was on as well as all sorts of paperwork and reports that were involved in running a department.
Upon my last year in the Marine Corps I worked for the S-5 Human affairs department to become the squadron's Substance Abuse Control Officer and Assistant Family Advocacy Officer. I enjoyed my billet very much and would have considered staying in the Corps if I would have been given the chance to remain a permanent SACO instead of returning to the ordnance department. However that wasn't possible I was told so I opted to receive my honorable discharge after 7 years and returned to my home of record, Sterling, Colorado.
Upon returning to Sterling in late September 2004, I enrolled in NJC and continuted to work towards my associate degree which I had started to do the last two years I was on active duty. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
