Life Schooling: I started my education by attending Miss Howard's private Kindergarten on High St., Gettysburg, PA. Then, what an experience as I went to Pitzer's School ( one room) for 1st and 2nd grade with Miss Maude Pensyl as my teacher.That year all of the one room schools were closed so I went "into town" to Keefauver Elementary School for 3-5th grades. I must have been in a "bubble" class of "war babies" because I then had to go to High Street School for 6th grade. I was lucky to attend Gettysburg Jr. High school for 7th and 8th grades. After moving to Biglerville, I graduated in 1965 from BHS. While in BHS I was a basketball cheerleader and class photographer. During these years I was very active in the local 4-H Light Horse and Pony Club. I attended and graduated from Shippensburg College with a BS in Elementary Education in 1969 and received my Masters from Shipp in 1971. During the summer of 1968 I traveled to and through Europe with a group from Shippensburg lead by Dr. and Mrs. Estep. We were in England for about 4 weeks where I attended classes at Pemboke College, Oxford University. Afterwards, we toured Switzerland, Italy and France for 3 weeks. I started teaching 2nd grade in 1969 at Biglerville Elementary School. In 1969 I married J.Gary Ratay who was teaching in the history dept. at BHS.
