Ann's Story
Life
Attended Ardmore Schools from 1974 to late October of 1980, before being whisked away back to my home state of Maine, where I graduated in a very small class of 94 students from Jay High School in 1982.
I went on to college (the 1st in my family!) attending Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ for three years where I was a music/vocal major. I then pursued a travel industry career, and was in the corporate travel business for six years in Maine, and another seven years in Tallahassee, Florida - where I've resided since 1991.
In 1990, I was blessed and fortunate to be crowned Miss Maine, and competed in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant in Atlantic City. I continue to be involved, serving as a committee member and producer of the Miss North Florida / Miss Tallahassee Scholarship Pageant. I also am a certified judge through Miss America, and serve in that capacity when called.
After moving to Tallahassee, I continued to sing in local chorales, church choirs and musical groups, and also did some modeling. I enjoyed working with charitable organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity and The Homeless Shelter.
I've been fortunate to have traveled a great deal in life thus far, covering most of the United States as well as Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Britain and Scotland.
Nearly ten years ago the course of my life changed, as I had an opportunity to become part of a media/public affairs team that works closely with the Florida Governor's Office regarding man-made and natural disasters - most notably hurricanes. I was promoted to Deputy Public Affairs Director for the entire agency in late 2001, and then Public Affairs Director for the same agency in 2003. I greatly enjoyed my duties within that fast-paced arena, handling all media issues(tv/radio/print) regarding growth management, affordable housing,...Expand for more
building codes, energy issues and of course, emergency public information during/outside of disaster events. The emergency management office is the state version of FEMA - (the Federal Emergency Management Agency). My job took me all over the state of Florida, and sometimes outside.
In 2004 I became an independent consultant, handling free-lance public relations work alongside my part-time position in public relations for Emergency Response Educators and Consultants, Inc., a disaster response training company based in Ocala, Fla. In late 2006, I joined the public relations team at Herrle Communications Group (now SalterMitchell) here in Tallahassee, and continue to handle EREC, Inc. and FL Governor's Hurricane Conference media duties. I have returned to college part-time, and am pursuing a degree in communications (with a minor in music - of course!).
I am a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, sing in our church choir and help to advance the music ministry there. I am also hoping to complete my dream of cutting a solo music record at some point, watch for my big debut!
Most importantly, I met my now-husband Daniel McMullen in October 2005, while serving on a church team at his place of work - The Episcopal Diocese Camp & Conference Center in Live Oak, Fla. He is the director of operations there - and it certainly was God at work in both our lives - we definitely credit Him with bringing us together. We wed July 7, 2007 here in Tallahassee with close to 250 of our family and friends. We are so blessed!
I have a beautiful cottage home, love to work in my yard tending my plants and flowers and have a 16-year young himalayan cat named Felicia that I call "my child" - she is a joy! Daniel and I am still trying to find a "central home base" for our family, yet it's all about commuting for the time being. We'll persevere!
